11 Must Haves For Your College Dorm

In This Article:

Packing for college is stressful. It can be overwhelming trying to remember everything you need before moving onto campus. The truth is though, no matter what you remember to bring or not, everything will work out fine. But just in case, here is a list of must haves that will make your adjustment back to school that much easier.

1. Dorm Shoes

A pair of slippers or slides that you can wear around your dorm are definitely a must have. Something you can easily slip on when going to the bathroom, a study room, or even just for a walk down the hall.

2. A Small Fan

During the end of summer, most dorm rooms can get awfully hot if the building is not air conditioned. A small fan that you can keep next to your bed or on your desk can be a life saver.

3. A Lamp

A little extra light can go a long way. Just incase your roommate wants lights out earlier than expected, a bed or desk lamp of your own can be extra helpful.

4. An Extension Cord/ Power Strip

You are definitely going to wish that your room had more plugs. The easiest way to get around this is to bring your own power strip to offer extra room for everything you need to plug in or charge. And while you're at it, and extension chord for your chargers is a must have to make your life that much easier.

5. Water Bottle

It is almost impossible to find a student on campus walking around without their very own reusable water bottle. Not only is this helpful as a way to stay hydrated while running from class to class, but its also great for environment! (Maybe invest in a reusable straw while you're at it)

6. Under-The-Bed Storage

The biggest tip any college kid will tell you is to raise your bed to optimize under-the-bed storage potential. Plastic drawers and storage containers will be your best friend when you are looking to store all your clothes, towels, snacks, and anything else that wont fit in your closet.

7. Shower Shoes & Caddy

If you are a college freshman, or if you have to use a communal bathroom, shower shoes are a must have. This provides a healthier and safer alternative to walking around barefoot. Also, a shower caddy makes trips to the bathroom that much easier to carry your things.

8. Keychain

Some colleges have keys to get into your dorm, while other have cards to swipe in. Depending on what your college offers, it's important to choose a way to carry around your key everyday. A phone pocket for your card or a keychain for your key will help you remember not to leave your dorm without it.

9. Command Hooks

Getting hooks that can easily stick to your wall or closet is a great hack for any dorm. They are an easy way to optimize storage and hang up anything from keys or backpacks, to towels and jackets.

10. Mattress Pad

It's a great idea to invest in a mattress pad so you don't have to rely on the worn out mattress that may come with your room. This will ensure you have a comfy bed and lots of good night sleeps.

11. Mask

This is a new one for the list! But for the foreseeable future, masks are an important must have. Make sure you grab one on your way out the dorm, and remember to be safe!

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
