So, I was sitting around one night thinking about what I would write for my article this week when I went on Youtube for some inspiration music. To much of my surprise, the first thing I noticed on my feed was a new music video release from one of my favorite bands, Marianas Trench. The music video is unlike a lot of music videos today, as they spend less time being flashy and more time capturing the mood of the song. So, it got me thinking. What better thing to write about than music videos that do just that?
These videos I picked not only capture the vibe of the song they are representing, but also are guaranteed to make you smile.
1. Who You Love ~ Marianas Trench
Of course I have to kick off this list with the video that started it all. Marianas Trench truly out did themselves with this simplistic yet heartwarming video in which they spent their usual video budget on various charities and generally just improving life. And let's not forget the beautiful song to go along with it. Kudos to you guys! Keep up the amazing work!
2. Honey I'm Good ~ Andrew Grammar
Okay you all knew this was going to be on the list; I mean how could it not! This music video is happiness personified. Seeing all these budding and long lasting relationships just warms my heart (if not make me feel a little lonely) and is guaranteed to make me smile in my darkest times. The song is insanely catchy and the home videos compliment the silliness to a T.
3. I Really Don't Care ~ Demi Lovato ft. Cher Lloyd
Okay what a better reason to smile than a good revenge song? Demi Lovato and Cher Lloyd kill this song and by hosting the music video during an LA Pride festival was genius! The bright and vibrant colors as wells as the numerous smiles and shenanigans is a great way to start your day, especially if you are in that post break-up haze. Do yourself a favor and crank up this song and just go wild! I promise you'll be bouncing around with a smile in no time!
4. 22 ~ Taylor Swift
I'm going to be honest with you all, I'm not the biggest T-Swift fan. Like at all. Yet, I have to say this girl can write some catchy tunes that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head (especially when you don't want them). While Swift has a lot of hits, 22 will always be a favorite of mine by her, simply because the video embodies what it means to be young and reckless, especially at 22. By choosing to film a video purely comprised of Swift and her friends enjoying a day in the sun, it really feels like a time out with your friends.
5. If You Ever Want To Be In Love ~ James Bay
Oh James Bay. I love me some James Bay. While most of his songs are overshadowed by the success of Let it Go & Scars, If You Ever Want to Be In Love is my favorite. The music video is shot in this little venue with sunlight pouring in through the windows and just the sweet sound of James Bay. I think what gets me the most is towards the end of the video where the crowd starts singing along and he calls out that they sound so good. The video is beautifully shot and the lyrics warm your heart as they inspire hope for love. If you haven't heard the song before or seen the music video, give it a look. You won't be disappointed.
6. Brokenhearted ~ Karmin
I think what makes Brokenhearted so damn entertaining is that it is so damn relatable. I mean who hasn't started freaking out with doubt after meeting a cute guy/gal? The video does a wonderful job of capturing that sense of self-doubt and anxiety while still being bubbly and adorable. From the bouncy beat to the hipster-vibe to the funky hairstyles, Brokenhearted will have you singing along at full volume.
7. You Make Me Feel ~ Cobra Starship ft. Sabi
Cobra Starship is known for their catchy beats, but You Make Me Feel takes the cake with all of them. The music video is filled with flashing lights and a club filled of people. What sets this video apart from other is the inclusion of a bunch of photo booth pictures scattered about the video. Robbin Williams even makes an appearance in some. The silly atmosphere and even sillier pictures will cheer you up even on your darkest days. All in all, the video perfectly encapsulates the joyous vibe the song conveys.
8. Billionaire ~ Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars
You had to know Bruno Mars was going to grace this list at some point, right? Instead of choosing a Bruno Mars' solo song, I decided to go with Travie McCoy's Billionaire that features Bruno. This beach scenery as wells as Travie's and Bruno's vocal harmony goes miles with bringing to life the dreams we all have of being billionaires.
9. Pretty Girl Rock ~ Keri Hilson
Keri Hilson doesn't get enough love in my opinion. Pretty Girl Rock is the ultimate getting ready song for a night out on the town. The beat is catchy and the lyrics just inspire self confidence (which every person needs). Not to mention that the video pays tributes to all the great acts of the past from TLC to Sade. Keri is adorable in the video and will have you smiling as you get ready for whatever it is you are going.
10. Happy ~ Pharrell Williams
Listen, I was so sick of this damn song when it first hit the radio. I still am if I'm going to be honest, but I cannot have a list of music videos that perfectly encapsulate happiness and the song's vibe without including it. Pharrell's Happy is both simple yet extremely effective. The video is composed of various people dancing down a street or of Pharrell himself dancing around. It's super fun and honestly does make you want to dance. At least the first couple of times you hear it.
So there's my list for you all. Hopefully you found some new favorites or perhaps even found that perfect playlist for when you are feeling down in the dumps.
Whatever it is, I hope you at least smiled.
