10 Moving Tips That Ensure Your Move Goes Smoothly

Moving can be a stressful even in an individual’s life, more so in a college student’s life. As we get to the time of year where old leases end and new leases start. I’m going to share some tips on making your move or transition to a new place, go smoothly.

1.Try to declutter as much as possible before packing up your room

Anything from donating clothes or throwing away old papers you don’t need, this will help quicken the moving process. I donated a ton of clothes before I moved and this saved room in my new place and the car.

2. Sell your furniture

If your room was furnished and you don’t need it anymore after the move, try to sell it. Craigslist on Facebook is a great place to list your unwanted items, including furniture. If you can’t sell it, you could always donate it or find a friend in need of furniture.

3. Use Command Strips

This is a life tip. Try to avoid using nails at all costs. That will cause trouble for you later on when you have to patch the walls in the process of moving. Command strips can hold many things and quite a lot of weight, and you can find them anywhere. And when they have to be taken down, they don’t ruin the wall like nails do.

4. Clean, clean, clean!

Most places need you to clean your apartment or room, so go ahead and keep your room clean on a consistent basis. This will help you in the long run so you don’t get overwhelmed on how messy your room will be at the end of the lease. Nothing is worse than walking into a new place and seeing a mess. So be courteous and clean!

5. Throw away expired products

Anything from food or makeup can expire. So if you have held on to some products for awhile, it might be time for them to be thrown out. Check out the dates on products that do expire.

6. Wear comfy clothes during the move

It’s definitely not a fashion show when you move out or in. So throw on a big t-shirt that can be tossed if it gets paint or dirt on it. During the summer the sweltering heat just makes you sweat uncontrollably, so you don’t want to ruin nice clothing. Don’t worry, no one will call you out for wearing those clothes while you move.

7. Maximize the space in your car

Organizing your car like a puzzle will help you make less trips during your move. The last thing you want is to make multiple trips back and forth. So neatly organize your items.

8. You don’t need boxes

Using bags, specifically garbage bags, is helpful during a move. If you mainly have clothes and decorations in your room, bags will suffice. You do not need to go out of your way and find boxes to put your items in. Most likely you will have garbage bags around the corner in your place. You can store clothing on their hangers directly in garbage bags and just tie them up.

9. Try to move your items in early

If you have the option to move in early, do so! Do your research and see if the place you move into offers that great choice. Even if it is extra money, it’s worth it.

10. Don’t stress

It’s a normal reaction to start stressing when you have to move. But if you plan accordingly and pack well, all will go as planned.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
