10 Movies You Have to Watch Over Break

Winter break is a time for napping, letting your liver recuperate, and watching copious amounts of television uninterrupted by the constant underlying feelings of stress about school.

*collective sigh of relief*

Now that you've got a month or so to relax, heres a list of some movies you should try to fit into your busy schedule of binge watching shows on Netflix:

#1. Whiplash

Starring Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons this movie - actually nope. That's all you need to know. They're in it, therefore it's amazing (the final scene of this movie will leave you in awe, I promise).

#2. Pulp Fiction

From what I've heard from my friends, this is one of those movies that you've always meant to watch, but have never actually have seen. This is it. This is your sign. Go watch it and try to understand the screwed up genius that is Quentin Tarantino along with the rest of us.

#3. The Secret Life of Pets

Honestly laughed way to hard for basically the whole movie. The perfect feel good to bring you up after having relatives bombard you with questions about your future, your love life, your grades, employment.....need I go on?

#4. Scarface

Because everybody loves a classic, especially when Al Pacino is part of it.

#5. Kubo and the Two Strings

This is honestly one of the best movies I've seen in a while. The story line is wonderful and the animations are amazing.

#6. Every single Star Wars movie ever made

Just do it. It'll be fun and you'll see every single Star Wars movie ever made, what could go wrong?

#7. Race

This one is based on the true story of when Jesse Owens, track star of Ohio State University, competed in the 1936 Olympic Games. Not only is he fighting to win his own gold medals, but he also is fighting against the ideals of the Nazi Regime and Aryan supremacy. 10/10 must see.

#8. Deadpool

Honestly, if you haven't seen this yet I feel kind of bad for you. Ryan Reynolds is hilarious and the perfect non-superhero. Go watch it. Seriously.

#9. Hot Fuzz

This is probably one of the most underrated actions movies ever. It's hilarious, witty, has conspiracy theories, a cult, and so many awesome fight scenes.

#10. Stardust

I know it sounds corny, but it's the best rom-com, feel good, action movie cross-over that I've seen in a while. This is my go to watch-when-sick movie, so if you're stuck home with a cold like so many of us with depreciating immune systems *insert upside down smiley face emoji* then check this one out. Also Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes, AND Robert De Niro are in it, so there's that.

Happy viewing!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
