It's that lovely time of year when the air becomes crisp and sweater-weather kicks in. October is wonderful month because it is filled with frights, crazy costumes, fall decorations, apple cider and plenty of pie. One of my favorite things to do in October is to watch Halloween movies and drink hot chocolate. From "Hocus Pocus" to "Halloween," here is a list of spooky movies (in no particular order), and where you can find them:
1. "Halloweentown" Series
A wonderful Disney Channel Original Movie is "Halloweentown." The first is definitely the best, but if you really want to get into the Halloween spirit, try watching all four. Find all four movies on Amazon, iTunes, and YouTube.
2. "Halloween"
I have not seen this because I am too scared! However, I have heard that the original is the best one. If you are in the mood for something true to Halloween, then look no further. Find it on Amazon.
3. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
One of the best and most versatile films, you can watch it during Halloween, Christmas, or any other time of the year. It's definitely one of my favorite Tim Burton movies. Find it on Amazon,
iTunes, and Netflix. 4. "Hocus Pocus"Hands down my all-time favorite Halloween movie. No other Halloween movie compares to "Hocus Pocus"; I always laugh when she says, "amok-amok-amok" and jump when Sarah Jessica Parker flies by the window. Not to mention Sean Murray, a.k.a. McGee from "NCIS," makes an appearance as Thackery (however, the voice of Binx the cat is a different actor). Find it on Amazon,iTunes, and YouTube.
5. "The Addams Family"
Another truly wonderful movie! I was recently Wednesday Addams for Halloween and it was pretty fun to give people death stares all day and remain entirely serious. Anyway, even though Halloween isn't actually mentioned in the film, it still has spooky elements. Find it on Amazon, iTunes, and Netflix.
6. "Casper"
It's the friendly ghost! "Casper" is always a great movie if you want something not scary at all, but also want to feel like you're watching a Halloween movie. It also stars Christina Ricci if you want more Wednesday! Find it on Amazon and iTunes.
7. "The Blair Witch Project"
If you want a good scare, then this is it! Since Halloween is a Pagan celebration, it is apt to watch a movie centered on witches. Unfortunately, if you get dizzy easily, pass on this one as it is filmed by a handheld camera. Find it on Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, and Netflix.
8. "Monster House"
This underrated Halloween cartoon is produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, who both worked on "Back to the Future III." I own it on DVD, and when it first came out in 2006, I was 11 and terrified. Even now, my sister is 26 and still can't watch it! I love it and Chowder is one of the best animated sidekicks. Find it on Amazon and iTunes.
9. "Carrie"
This movie does not take place during Halloween, but it's worth watching. It's a horror film so it will scare you, which is one of the main aspects of Halloween! I have not seen the original, so the links are for the remake. Find it on Amazon, iTunes, and Netflix.
10. "Fun Size"
This movie is pretty cheesy. It's rated PG-13, but it's more PG than anything. It takes place on Halloween and Wren is forced to babysit her younger brother (who does not speak, ever), and quite predictably chaos ensues when she loses her brother. Find it on Amazon and iTunes.
