10 Movies To Watch On Movie Night

We've all been there before: it's movie night and we don't know what movie we want to see. Usually, Netflix has some really great independent films or documentaries, but then there are times when Netflix can let us down. However, with or without Netflix, you can have a successful movie night! I'll try not to give away any spoilers, but I think these 10 movies will be hits at your next movie night. So grab the popcorn and drinks, and get comfy!

1. "The Lion King."

You can never go wrong with a classic Disney movie. All ages can enjoy "The Lion King," but bring the tissues for Scarr vs. Mufasa. Simba is very relatable for younger kids, and the adventures that he goes on with Timon and Pumbaa, along with the lessons that learns, are entertaining and will be a hit at anyone's movie night.

2. "The Avengers."

Anyone can watch a great superhero story, but when you combine several superheroes, well then you have an amazing movie! I love "The Avengers" because this movie offers multiple heroes that I have come to love over the years. Along with some drama, there is a lot of comedy present in this film. Any gender and age will appreciate this movie on movie night.

3. "Big Hero 6."

Grab the tissues because this movie will hit you in your feels. I only recently saw this video one day with my dad and I had to hold back my tears (even though I saw spoilers online). This movie is all about family and it's one of the first movies that I have seen that doesn't try to mask the pain and anger one can feel when mourning. This movie is also about the strong bond of friendship and love. It is one of my favorite animated movies and I think after you see it, it will become one of your favorites too.

4. "The Princess and the Frog."

OK, this is literally my favorite movie ever. Tiana is my favorite Disney princess because, to me, she offers something that most princesses haven't in the past. Tiana's story is staged in New Orleans and we see that she is a hard working girl who is trying to make her dream of owning her own restaurant come true, regardless of the obstacles that stand in her way. Tiana shows that hard work can pay off, and that working toward your goals can be more satisfying than having them handed to you. Tiana, however, learns not to place work above everything else in her life and sees that sometimes all you need is hard work and a little love.

5. "Ride Along 2."

Who doesn't love a good Kevin Hart movie? Ice T and Kevin Hart are back to solve more cases, but this time they find themselves in Miami the weekend before Kevin is to get married to Ice T's sister. Any movie with these two is bound to be a hit no matter who is watching. The comedic energy that is in this movie will have your group laughing the entire time.

6. "Step Brothers."

So I can't say that this a movie for all ages, but it is definitely a great movie that will have everyone laughing from start to finish. Will Ferrell is a great actor, but with John C. Reilly the two make the perfect pair for this comedic movie. Watching two grown men act like teenagers is always a recipe for a good time.

7. "The Hangover."

Can you say friendship goals? Somethings are better left in Vegas, but this bachelor party goes insanely wrong when the men lose the groom. Being trapped in a room with a tiger, finding a random baby and finding out you are married to an exotic dancer might be a little less alarming if you actually knew how all those things happened. The gang has to go on a crazy adventure and retrace their steps in order to find their missing friend and someone's soon-to-be husband. In the end what happens in Vegas, should always stay in Vegas.

8. "Madea."

I'm a fan of Tyler Perry, and I think his movies are great! There are a variety that range from comedy to drama. All movies contain some sort of meaning or message that is meant to teach you something or open your eyes to some real life problems, however when Madea is involved it's always done in a comedic way. Even if you're not a fan of Tyler Perry (everyone is entitled to his or her opinion) you can always use these for a bad movie night. ,The main three I would recommend are "Madea's Big Happy Family" "Diaries of a Mad Black Woman," and "Madea's Family Reunion."

9. "Finding Nemo."

As a kid, "Finding Nemo" was one of my go-to movies. I think I watched the DVD so many times that I ended up making my family hate it. This movie is great for all ages and is very family orientated. "Finding Nemo" has a lot of lessons hidden in it, and can really teach you something about family and friendship. Also, "Finding Dory," the sequel of this movie, is coming out this year, so if you haven't seen "Finding Nemo," now is the perfect time to do so.

10. "Star Wars."

A classic is always a must for movie night, and you just can't go wrong with "Star Wars." If you've never watched a "Star Wars" movie in your life I would suggest getting into them because the most recent release ("The Force Awakens") was amazing! Even if you're not a diehard "Star Wars" fan, the latest release will have you convinced to give them a try. The storyline is easy to keep up with and you'll be engaged from start to finish.

May the force be with you on your movie night!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
