Christmas is just around the corner, but if you aren't in the jolly spirit just yet, here are the best Christmas movies to help you along.

1. Elf

Raised as an elf, Buddy leaves the North Pole to go to New York City in search of his real father.

If watching Will Farrell's portrayal of the lovable but misguided Buddy doesn't get you excited for Christmas, I don't know what will.

2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

The Griswold family is preparing for a family seasonal celebration, but things don't run smoothly.

If you're dreading the holidays with your family, this movie will make you feel like they're the normal ones.

3. Home Alone

Kevin is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. After the initial joy of being alone in the house, Kevin has to defend his home against two burglars.

Christmas doesn't always have to be filled with trees and tinsel. Burglars and mayhem can create the same effect.

4. The Santa Clause

When Scott Calvin inadvertantly kills Santa on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place.

After seeing Tim Allen morph into Santa Clause, who of us didn't hope for our own fathers to become Mr. Christmas?

5. The Grinch

Based on the Dr. Seuss book, Jim Carrey brings life to the Grinch — the big green "monster" whose heart grows three sizes after being exposed to the holiday spirit alive and well in Whoville.

6. The Polar Express

Based on a book by the same title, The Polar Express features a young nameless boy who is given a unique opportunity to travel to the North Pole and visit Santa Claus. It's a heart warming story of believing.

7. Miracle on 34th Street

Hired to replace a drunken Macy's Santa Claus, Kris Kringle meets young Susan who was raised to dismiss all notions of belief and fantasy.

This one will have you believing in Santa Clause again.

8. It's a Wonderful Life

In the Christmas classic, Jimmy Stewart portrays George Bailey — a businessman who learns what the world would be like without his existence. This is the perfect movie for a pick-me-up.

9. Holiday Inn

Another classic, Holiday Inn features Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby, who work in an inn which is only open on holidays. Crosby's infamous "White Christmas" stems from this 1942 film.

10. A Christmas Story

All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder 200 shot B.B. gun, and he fantasizes about what it would be like to be Red Ryder and catch the bad guys.

If you remember your childhood Christmas must-haves, this is will bring back great memories.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
