Can you believe it's been an entire decade?

I think we all can admit that the 2000s were a simpler time. Smart phones had barely hit the scene, we were too young to understand or care about politics, and the Disney Channel was in it's prime. A decade ago, the year 2007 (not 3000) graced us with great cinematic genius and variety. So in the name of childhood nostalgia, here are 10 movies that were released 10 years ago.

1. Meet the Robinsons

With a soundtrack featuring The Jonas Brothers, it doesn't get more iconic than this. There was so much going on in this movie, but it all came together so well and definitely kept the attention of kids and adults alike.

2. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

If someone had asked 9-year-old me what one place I'd most want to go is, this would be the answer. Magical, mystical, enchanting, Mr. Magorium and his Wonder Emporium were everything a kid could wish for.

3. August Rush

When it came out you know you either identified with August and the other kids or at least really felt for them. This is one of those movies that is timeless: it's always relevant and speaks to people of all ages. Watching it now makes me so emotional. A heart-wrenching classic.

4. Alvin and the Chipmunks

Uncle Ian. Toaster waffles. Hula hoops. Funky Town. Parents probably got tired of this movie after the first time watching, but I remember asking to see it time and time again. We even got an Alvin and the Chipmunks Wii game!

*Fun fact you may not know: Matthew Gray Gubler aka Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds was the voice actor for Simon.*

5. Ratatouille

What was Disney thinking with this? The only explanation is it was 2007. On another note, how many of us reallllllly wanted to taste Ratatouille before realizing it was just a vegetable dish?

6. Bridge to Terabithia

This movie marked an emotional turning point in my life. It was after this movie I realized several actors play the same character at different ages, and I distinctly remember crying in the movie theater because I thought the actor died when the character did. My mom had to assure me AnnaSophia Robb did not die when Leslie did. (I don't think that made me any less sad, though.)

7. Nancy Drew

I don't know if this resonates with a lot of people my age, but I know Nancy Drew has a special place in my heart. As a fellow lover of old-fashioned things and problem solving, Nancy was always an icon for me. Max Theriot as Ned was definitely one of my first celebrity crushes.

8. The Game Plan

Remember when The Rock still had hair?

9. Enchanted

This was especially enlightening to watch as an 8-year-old. It brought the Disney princesses we grew up with to life and made magic reality.

10. Bee Movie

How can one compile a list of 2007 movies without this icon? Bee Movie has become a huge meme, but was once a quality (okay, maybe not) movie we all enjoyed.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
