With the Oscars airing this past Sunday, great movies are on everyone's mind. I have seen some pretty amazing movies, and while I'm sure there are so many other movies that could easily make this list, I've decided to share 10 movies I have seen and loved that I think everyone should see in their lifetime.
1. Rain Man
Dustin Hoffman gives such a moving and realistic portrayal in this movie as an adult with autism. The relationship between Hoffman and Tom Cruise is truly heartwarming and it highlights the importance of family.
2. Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is the movie that made me fall in love with Matt Damon. It is also the movie that taught me to not judge a book by its cover because there is so much more to a person than how they appear.
3. Terms of Endearment
If you're in the mood for a good cry, this one's for you! Following the tumultuous relationship between a child and parent, this is a movie everyone can relate to. With memorable performances by Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger, and Jack Nicholson, this movie is one for the books.
4. A Beautiful Mind
This is a movie that beautifully portrays how a mental illness affects not just the individual, but their loved ones as well. It teaches us that no matter how hopeless the situation may seem, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, especially when you are fortunate to have love to get you through it.
5. A League of Their Own
If you love baseball, comedies, or women's issues, then you will love ALeague of Their Own. Set during WWII, this movie portrays the obstacles and joys of an all female professional baseball league. With a knockout cast including Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell, this movie will provide you with some laughs and a unique perspective on a crucial time in our nation's history.
6. Gone Girl
SPOILER ALERT: This amazing thriller will not fail to shock you. Rosamund Pike gives a chilling performance as Amy Dunne, a women who fakes her own disappearance and does plenty of other horrendous acts in order to get what she wants. The ending will leave you shocked and asking plenty of questions.
7. The Shawshank Redemption
This one is a true classic. It shows its viewers so many things: the hardships and brutality of prison life, the resilience of human beings, and the beauty of hope and friendship. If you have not seen this movie, I suggest you do so ASAP.
8. Se7en
This movie follows an investigation regarding a murderer who kills his victims in a manner that represents each of the seven deadly sins. Kevin Spacey is perfectly creepy and sadistic in his role and the end will be sure to leave you speechless for a few days at the very least.
9. The Silence of the Lambs
Another chilling thriller, this one is also a classic. Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are a dynamic duo. Just don't watch too many of these thrillers right before going to bed.
10. Schindler's List
And last but certainly not least, there is Schindler's List. It is a very hard movie to watch because it deals with a very dark time in history, the Holocaust, but it is often the most powerful movies that deal with the darkest topics. But don't despair, the ending does have a bittersweet note to it.
And there you have it! Like I said, there are so many fantastic movies to choose from. These were just some of the ones that came to mind and that have left the greatest impact on me. Now go experience the greatness for yourself!
