As summer is rapidly coming to a close, and any free time that we all have now will soon go away, I feel that it is only fitting to share the movies that I plan to marathon in order to get re-pumped for college life.
If y'all are anything like me, you know that going back to school is nerve wracking, wallet busting and less than exciting. So in order to prepare myself and create false expectations (yet again) I watch these movies to get me into the spirit of things.
1. She's The Man (2006)
As if anyone ever needs an excuse to watch this movie, it really gets my school vibes going. The drama, the cute boys, the sports, even the dissections get me ready for anything and everything that school can bring. Well, maybe not everything, but if Channing Tatum can't raise me back to school spirits, no one can.
2. Harry Potter.... All of them
Once again, no one needs an excuse to watch "Harry Potter", especially since there is a Harry Potter weekend, like, every weekend on ABC Family (I cannot call it Freeform). But, Harry Potter rekindles memories from my childhood and gets me excited to spend time with my closest friends, even though we rarely drive flying cars or put three-headed dogs to sleep.
3. Dead Poets Society (1989)
This classic will always hold special place in my heart, seeing as I am a literature nerd and plan to be a teacher. If you need to get pumped and reminded of how to be a good person through your education, this one is for you. Also, Robin Williams is a peach and continues to inspire my future teaching.
4. With Honors (1994)
This movie is a constant reminder to me that I can't be taught everything I need to know in a lecture hall or from a textbook. It also reminds me to be humble and take every piece of knowledge I gain, no matter where it comes from.
5. Hercules (1997)
"Hercules" is, quite honestly, just a great Disney movie that everyone needs in their lives sometimes. "Zero to Hero" is an anthem that gets me out of bed in the mornings, and Phil reminds me that there is always more to learn. But, in the end, it will all pay off.
6. Accepted (2006)
Man, if I could go to the South Harmon Institute of Technology with Bartleby (AKA Justin Long) life would be awesome. Not just for the skate park within an empty pool, or the sweet, student-led curriculum, but all of the students rejected from other colleges carry a lesson of inclusion and diversity that you just can't find anywhere else.
7. Legally Blonde (2001)
Elle Woods is a true inspiration. There is nothing more fantastic than getting into Harvard Law School, defying all odds, just to spite and outshine your douche of an ex-boyfriend. Whenever I need some preppy female empowerment, I look to this blonde "Gemini Vegetarian".
8. Pitch Perfect (2012)
Pitch Perfect really began to shape my ideas about college considering it came out right as I was entering high school. It gave me realistic expectations for dorm bathrooms (although I have never been forced to sing in one), the possibility that my roommate might hate me and even the weird groups of people I may encounter in school. I need to be re-prepared before returning.
9. John Tucker Must Die (2006)
Although I didn't get close to my roommates because we were all dating the same guy, we did come together in somewhat unexpected circumstances. Being forced to live together gave us the opportunity to become extremely close but unexpected besties, much like the girls in this movie. And I would give any boys that broke their hearts hell too.
10. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Finally, a John Hughes classic. Ferris helps me justify missing a class or two (or three) to take a little bit of time for myself. College is draining, and we mustn't forget to embrace a little fun here and there. Don't let life pass you by my friends, but enjoy the struggle too.
Happy Back to School Preparation!
