So, lately I've been a little "Modern Family" obsessed. By a little, I mean I watch it every moment of free time I have. Why? Because I am literally so envious of whoever got to write this show. The writing is brilliant. I wish that I could have written something this amazing. What sets "Modern Family" apart from other sitcoms is that while it's just as funny as "Friends" or "The Office," it also has the life lessons from "Full House." But most of the time when people talk about "Modern Family," they talk about the comedic moments or the really obvious, sad moments. But there are so many other beautiful moments that show raw human emotion and compassion. These are the moments I wish to share with all of you because theymake this show truly unique.

1. Claire finally realizes the pressure Alex is under.

This scene makes me cry every single time I watch it (and I've watched it at least five times). This moment is what I show people when they think "Modern Family" is just some comedic show about a dysfunctional family. In this episode, Alex goes to therapy where she has to confront many emotions she's tried to hide and push down. When she comes out, she finds Claire, who for the first time, says that she understands the pressure Alex is under. Alex hugs her and cries. This moment not only gives a new level of depth to Alex, but also shows the complex emotion of wanting to be good enough.

2. Manny thinks he's going to be responsible for his younger brother.

In this episode, Manny makes Jay and Gloria go to a parenting class. They hate the class and leave early. When Manny finds out, he gets angry. He's worried about the new baby. Jay comforts him telling him that he won't have to be the man of the house this time. He says, "I'm not going to let anything happen to the baby just like I'm never going to let anything happen to you." This moment is so amazing, because it subtly acknowledges that Manny had a rough childhood before Gloria married Jay, which is the main reason he is so mature now. And Jay reminding him that he will be there for Manny as well as the baby, is just beautiful.

3. Claire bonds with Alex over humiliating moments.

"Your kids don't need to know who you were before you had them. They need to know who you wish you were and try to live up to that person. They're going to fall short but better they fall short of the fake you than the real you." Oh Claire... such an interesting parenting style. In this episode, we realize that Claire has been trying to convince her children she was the perfect, good girl growing up. After Alex makes a total fool of herself in front of a boy and the whole soccer team, Claire reveals to her that she wasn't always a good girl and tells her one of her most embarrassing stories. This is one of the first times we really get to see Alex and Claire bond. It's such a simple, mundane moment, but it is that simplicity that makes it truly special.

4. Haley reveals to Alex that she is really struggling.

"Everybody has their stuff," Haley tells Alex right before she goes to give her speech for her middle school graduation. Haley gets chocked up as she says her "stuff" is that she has to go to summer school and might not even get into college. When Alex goes up to give her speech, instead of saying how much she hates all the popular kids, she follows Haley's advice and just says a bunch of cliches. In this moment, we truly see a bond between the two very different sisters.

5. Luke hides Haley's college acceptance letter.

6. Jay dances with Lily.

Tell me this is not the cutest thing ever?! Lily says the only way she will dance is if Jay dances with him. So he does!

7. Phil gets super protective of his little girl.

When Haley starts dating an older guy, Claire convinces Phil they have to play it cool so she will stop dating him. In this episode Haley has a break where she yells at Claire "I'm a huge disappointment to him [Phil] I see it on his face every day." Almost immediately after, Phil, unaware that Haley can hear him, tells Claire "That's my little girl I need her to know that no guy on Earth is good enough for her." This moment is so amazing because you have the daughter who just wants to make her dad proud, and the dad who realises at the end of the day all he wants is for his daughter to be happy and safe.

8. Gloria tells Jay she can't do it alone this time.

"I can't do this on my own and you did this to me so you're going to be here this time!" We don't get a lot of these truly emotional outbursts from Gloria. Yes she is known for having a temper, but this moment runs deeper. Gloria really admits that she has struggled in the past and is afraid. It's a beautiful moment in which she admits she is vulnerable.

9. Jay chose to stay in a loveless marriage for Claire and Mitchell.

Throughout this episode Claire and Mitchell make fun of Jay for crying at the robotic Lincoln exhibit in Disneyland. At the end of the episode, Jay reveals the reason he cried was because up until listening to Lincoln's speech about duty he was planning on leaving Dede. He says, "I realised staying with my kids was more important than leaving my wife, now that's not the right decision for everyone, but that was the right decision for me, so I stuck it out until they were grown." It is in this moment that we realise just how much Jay loves his children.

10. Mitchell tells Cam he was afraid he would leave him.

"I was scared that it was just going to all be too much for you and that you were going to leave. And I was going to be the one taking care of a baby and half her name would belong to the guy who left us" at the end of this line Mitchell's voice cracks. This moment shows a vulnerability in Mitchell that we rarely ever see. It provides another level of depth to the character as it shows that while he may be completely type-A personality with everything organised and together; he still has fears and insecurities.

Modern Family is such a popular show because it helps us to laugh at the mundane, every day events of our lives. It is relatable and clever. But what makes it so special is that while we laugh, we also see the beauty in the most simple moments in life. And how people show love in all kinds of crazy and simple ways. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go find a box of tissues.

Toilet Troubles

"So, usually I would never go on a Tinder date but when you are out with girlfriends and a hot Bosnian guy says he wants to hang with you and his friends, you oblige. We head to their apartment and when I realized I may pee my pants if I don't find a bathroom soon. I ask for the bathroom and a friend of my tinder date shows me to it and said in all seriousness that I was not allowed to flush the toilet under ANY circumstances. Having a few drinks--or five--I relieved myself to, nevertheless, flush the toilet. Within seconds, his bathroom was flooded and towels were laid out everywhere to catch the toilet water. To say the least, we were not invited back"
