Known as "The King of Pop", Michael Jackson was a music legend who will not soon be forgotten. During his 45 years as a singer-songwriter, performer, produce, and dancer, he received a total of 23 Guinness World Records, 40 Billboard Awards, 13 Grammys, and 26 American Music Awards. He also received the honor of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice -- once with the Jackson Five and once as a solo artist. Given his record-breaking success, it's no wonder that people still revere him today -- whether it's through imitating his dance moves, playing his music at clubs and parties or making mention of him in television, movies and songs. Today, however, on what would have been his 58th birthday, I am choosing to pay tribute to his success by recounting his most iconic songs. Moonwalk into the past with me as we remember the man, the music and the legend.
1. "Thriller"
It's safe to say that for most people, whenever Michael Jackson is mentioned the first song that comes to mind is "Thriller."
2. "Beat It"
You may have heard it in "Back to the Future Pt. II." Or on the radio, since it was at the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100 for three weeks in 1983.
3. "Bad"
This song is so iconic even Weird Al Yankovic made a cover of it.
4. "Billie Jean"
The kid was just not his son, people. You know what was his though? The ability to make sidewalks light up wherever he walked.
5. "Smooth Criminal"
You gotta admit, this was one of the coolest music videos MJ ever made. How did he accomplish that super cool, seemingly impossible lean?
6. "Man in the Mirror"
This one was definitely one of Michael's most inspiring songs.
7. " Rock With You"
This one spent four weeks on the charts in January of 1980.
8. "Black or White"
Another one of Michael's more inspiring songs. Equality, people!!
9. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"
Easy to sing along to, easy to dance to. Thanks, Mike.
10. "You Are Not Alone"
Another song that gives us hope. It also made history as the first song to enter the Hot 100 chart at No. 1.
