Here’s the second roundup of what you should totally check out in New York City before summer comes to a close. Take advantage of the weather, get out and go!
1. Visit a replica of the house from Psycho
Located on the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a large-scale sculpture by Cornelia Parker until Oct. 31. Inspired by the Hitchcock film "Psycho," the house is nearly 30 feet high and totally mind-blowing. Visit when the MET is open and remember the price for entry is a donation. Take a look in Gallery 926, which is on the roof.
2. Visit the famed Apollo Theater
Check out an amateur night at The Apollo! Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken-word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo legend. Tickets start at $21.
3. Go to the Brooklyn Flea Market
With over 100 flea market vendors and another 30 food vendors, there’s a lot to enjoy! On Saturdays, go to 176 Lafayette Ave. for the Fort Greene Flea from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sundays go to either the Grand Army Market at the Grand Army Plaza from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or go to the DUMBO flea market at the Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4. Ever heard of a Seaglass Carousel?
Seaglass is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to10 p.m., weather permitting. The Carousel is located at the Battery Conservancy. The entrance is at State St. and Water St. It is definitely Instagram worthy!
5. Go to the secret section of Central Park
The Hallett Nature Sanctuary reopened this March. The park hasn't been open regularly to visitors since the 1930s. The four-acre park is open:
Until June 30:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 2 - 5 p.m.
July 1 - Aug. 31:
Monday and Friday, 2 - 5 p.m.
Wednesday: 2 - 7 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
6. Celebrate the WNBA’s 20th anniversary by going to a game
Hey, if you’ve heard about the WNBA that’s a start. Go support your local New York Liberty team. Tickets are really cheap, around $15, but you can get a solid seat for $33.
7. Waterfront workouts? Sign me up!
From June to September, Brooklyn Bridge Park hosts waterfront workouts for free! Take a look at the website to decide what class you want to take. There’s Piyo, GRIT, pilates, ballet barre, etc. Best part, entry is free!
8. Go to the Hester Street Fair!
9. Rockaway!
MoMA has a special outdoor public exhibit by artist Katharina Grosse. Grosse transforms Ft. Tilden’s decaying aquatics building into a spray painted piece of art. Check it out from July 3 – Nov. 30 at the Gateway National Recreation Area at Fort Tilden, New York. Only open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
10. Floating pool, anyone?
Take a walk uptown to the Baretto Point Park for a quick dip in the floating pool, located on the East River. The pool opens June 29 and hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s free and more importantly, it's a floating pool!
