Making a feature-length film takes a lot of time, effort, and money. Through so many months (even years) of filming, it can be hard to re-shoot mistakes or keep track of small aspects in the film. Even in the most famous series of films, they have their fair share of mistakes and continuity errors. Here are ten mistakes in the "Star Wars" universe:
1. Stormtrooper Hits Head ("A New Hope," 1977)
A squad of stormtroopers goes to investigate the control room. When they break in, the stormtrooper on the right hits his head on the door frame. The head-bumping stormtrooper did not account for his height and the low clearance that the entrance presented. It didn't help that the helmets had a poor field of vision. In the 2004 DVD release, they added a comical thump when he hits his head.
2. Visible Wires ("A New Hope," 1977)
The fight between Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader ends tragically, but the scene itself is pretty intense... Minus the visible wires. In certain positions, the white wires to light the saber are spotted. This isn't even the only scene in the movie where this happens. After the movie's release, lightsabers are no longer practical effects, but rather created in post production.
3. Swapping Places ("Return of the Jedi," 1983)
At first, Lando’s holster is fastened on his right shoulder. When Han walks away and turns back, there is a shot of Lando saying, “Would you get going, you pirate?” Clearly, this shot is reversed. Lando's holster is fastened on his left shoulder, and his insignia is on the other side of his chest.
4. Chewbacca's Feet ("Empire Strikes Back," 1980)
In Cloud City, Leia, Lando, Chewbacca and C-3PO are running to the Millennium Falcon. As Leia shoots a Stormtrooper, in the background Chewbacca's real feet are revealed. The white rubber sole of the actor's shoe can be seen by the audience.
5. Rey's Staff ("The Force Awakens," 2015)
When Rey jumps onto her speeder, she places her staff on the left side of the speeder. In the wide shot, the staff appears on the opposite side.
6. Anakin Switches Hands ("The Phantom Menace," 1999)
When he turns on C-3P0, he quickly remembers to put in the droid’s other eye. Anakin picks up C-3P0's right eye with his left hand. However, in the wider shot, Anakin uses his right hand to attach the eye.
6. Cutting the Pear ("Attack of the Clones," 2002)
Attempting to show off, Anakin levitates Padme’s pear over to his plate. When he cuts the pear with his utensils, it is right down the middle. When he levitates it back to her, the fruit is not even half the size of the piece he cut in the previous shot.
7. AT-AT Falls Over ("Empire Strikes Back," 1980)
When Luke takes down an AT-AT, he apparently had some help. Once the giant AT-AT starts to fall, a stick is seen underneath its foot to help cause it topple over.
8. Han's Restraints ("Empire Strikes Back," 1980)
When Han is about to be lowered into the carbonite chamber, he has a harness on his upper arms and back. When Han is saved in the next movie, there are no restraints on him.
9. Ewok Suit ("Return of the Jedi," 1983)
On the planet Endor, there is one Ewok that isn't quite like the others. The costume didn't quite fit the extra correctly. The audience can see the eyes and mouth of the person inside the Ewok costume.
10. Obi-Wan's Lightsaber ("Revenge of the Sith," 2005)
During the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan, Anakin pins his mentor. He grabs Obi-Wan’s wrist and pushes his instructor's own lightsaber towards his throat. Obi-Wan manages to slide his hand up the hilt of the lightsaber, but in the next shot, he appears to be holding a different lightsaber altogether.
Even though there are mistakes in the "Star Wars" movies, we all still enjoy them. Maybe not the prequels, but either way we are still captivated by the magic of the universe to notice the small mistakes.
