1. Ohmygod, what's Obama like?
Yes, this is a question that I still get from people at my college that i am friends with, I mean maybe i'll meet his wife at the gym when they move to the suburbs of the city? fingers crossed.
2. Don't you just love Georgetown Cupcakes?
Don't get me wrong, sometimes I crave one of their red velvets, but when i'm home it's Baked and Wired. It's tucked a way from the main drag of M street, and they have cupcakes almost the size of your hand.
3. Not everyone in this city is a political scientist
DC isn't just known for the house and the senate, other occupations exist in this city, how else do you think it would run if that wasn't the case?
4. Yes- all the museums are free
It may come as a surprise to some tourists, but yes, the entire Smithsonian is free, I've been pretty spoiled most of my life that whenever I go to cities like Boston or New York I'm shocked that I have to pay admission for a museum.
5. DC isn't just a policy city, it's a foodie city
All it take's is looking with the correct set of eyes, each neighborhood has its own various flavors, but Rasika, 2Amy's, Sushiko and Jaleo are just some of the few that this city has to offer.
6. DC is NOT the South
One more time, DC is not the south, DC has a bit of North and South to it, but everyone is always in such a rush to get everywhere, that there is more of a coldness then a warm of southern hospitality.
7. The Redskins are not our only sports team
The Redskins may end up in the press a lot because of their name and because they never win, but we also have the Caps, Wizards, and the Ravens even.
8. Most people who say they are from the District, really aren't .
All of us Marylanders and Virginia people, like to think we are natives and like to tell people we are from DC because it's easier than naming the random suburb of MD or VA that you are from.
9. Georgetown is not just a university, it's also a real place.
Everyone know's Georgetown because of the top notch school, what most don't know is Georgetown is also a town running along M street with great shopping and amazing restaurants, especially by the Potomac river.
10. Don't use the metro if you need to get somewhere fast
While yes the views are pretty when you get to be above ground, but single tracking and metro fires are less pretty. Do yourself a favor and walk through the city or take and Uber, it'll be faster.
