Every morning I make it part of my routine to read a quote from a book of mindfulness practices. It has helped focus my thoughts on the present moment more clearly, and to remember that all we have is right now. I know some quotes may sound corny and repetitive about being to be told to “live in the present moment”, but it is a very important thing to do, and can take a lot of practice. So, I have compiled a list of my favorite quotes I have read so far into a list that will hopefully help you become more mindful too!

1. “Respond; don’t react. Listen; don’t talk. Think; don’t assume.” -Raji Lukkoor

2. “Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience. It isn’t more complicated than that. It is being open to or receiving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is, without either clinging to it or rejecting it.”- Sylvia Boorstein

3. “I change my life when I change my thinking. I am Light. I am Spirit. I am a wonderful, capable being. And it is time for me to acknowledge that I create my own reality with my thoughts. If I was to change my reality, then it is time for me to change my mind.”- Louise Hay

4. “Compassion is not complete if it does not include oneself.”- Allan Lokos

5. “Rivers know this: there is no hurry, we shall get there some day.”- A.A. Milne

6. “I deserve the best and I accept the best now.”- Louise Hay

7. “It is not what you look at that matters, its what you see.”- Henry David Thoreau

8. "Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt, crept in. Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson

9. “Leave your front and back door open. Let your thoughts come and go. Just don’t serve them tea.”- Shunryū Suzuki

10. “Rule your mind or it will rule you.”- Buddha

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
