10 Memories From Middle School

A hard time for all of us, but fun to look back on.

Middle school was rough for just about everyone. Braces, horrible eyeshadow choices, outfits that consisted of graphic tees and skinny jeans, and so many more cringe-worthy things made middle school just that; cringe-worthy. In a way, though, I am sometimes nostalgic for the care-free happy days of being a tween. Here are 10 things that just scream "middle school."

1. Aeropostale graphic tees

The too-tight tees that could be mixed and matched to match just about any outfit!

2. Silly Bandz

Trading them at the lunch table, wearing them up to your elbows, and begging your mom to buy you "just one more pack." I had dozens of these and, honestly, I miss the simple times.

3. Braces

These were awkward days for all of us. Food would get all up in there, you'd have to change your rubber bands before you ate, and it just made life all the harder. Remember when you'd get your school colors before basketball games so you could, you know, really show your school spirit.

4. Recording songs from the radio to set as your ringtone

"Guys, quiet! I'm trying to record Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner as my ringtone!"

5. Picnik editing your photos

Need I say more?

6. 2-day relationships

"Hey. Wanna date?" "Yes." "I love u." "I love u 2." Or something along those lines. And then you'd break up a week later. Crushed.

7. Playing Farmville

Farmville was the move back in those days. That is, if you were ever allowed to even have a Facebook.

8. These shoes

I'm not sure if these shoes were a trend for everyone or if it was just my town, but yeah. I had pair in several different colors. I don't need to explain much else here.

9. Flat-ironing the life out of your hair

My poor, poor hair. I treated you so badly in middle school and I sincerely apologize for that. I hope u still luv me. :(

10. Waiting for high school

Why was I so excited for that again? They seemed so big, mature, old, and so cool. Did I maybe overestimate high school? Yes, a little. I should have cherished my days as a child while I had the chance.

Middle school...I kind of miss you. In a totally nostalgic and weird sort of way. You were not good to me in many ways, but glad I had you. I could go on for a while about how embarrassing middle school was, but I'll just leave you with a few memories.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
