Megan and Liz

When I came across videos of singing twins, Megan and Liz, making videos on the internet a few years ago I knew that I'd found artists to listen to for a while. They had such fantastic voices and could really tell a story when they spoke. I couldn't wait for their covers to come out and I'd constantly rewatch them. So when they released their own music, I was super excited. Now, almost eight years later, there's nothing that brings me more joy than having their songs mixed into my playlists. They have such real songs, emotions sometimes fly and I can really find a song by them for every moment. Here's 10 Megan and Liz songs that everyone needs to listen to!

1. Long Distance

This one makes sense for college students. We're away from home and maybe that's where your significant other is. It's not easy by any means, and in this song, Megan and Liz really share a story about missing the person you love. It has a fun beat to go along with the incredible story!

2. Old School Love

I'm sure you picture your ideal love being like those you hear about in the "old ways." Right? Love letters, holding hands, going on actual dates. We date in a new way and this song talks about that. With this catchy song, they talk about what we are missing with the new type of dating!

3. Home is You

This one is about being with that person who makes you feel at home. For everyone it's different, this could be your friends, a sibling, your parents. The message is that "home isn't a place, it's you."

4. Like I Would

Ever have that one girl you compare yourself to? Is it your ex's current significant other? I'm sure we've all had that jealousy moment where you tell yourself you'd be so much better than that person, or you'd love them in a way that nobody else can. Here's the song for you.

5. In the Shadows Tonight

Liz wrote this one after she read a book she liked and there's nothing more thrilling than blasting this one as loud as I can. It's a beautiful song and I feel like I can relate to it. There have been times when hiding in the shadows seemed ideal. "It's up to me if I want things to change," is probably the true line of the song. Nothing will change if I don't try and work my hardest.

6. Karma's Coming Back for Me

When was the last time you thought karma was going to come back around to get you back for something? It's something we can all relate to. We know when there's a chance of karma coming back us, yet that doesn't always help us make the decision not to do something. This song sings about that moment.

7. Release You

This one is about saying goodbye to someone who is holding you back, holding you down and simply not a good influence in your life. I remember this one coming out and dancing around my room screaming the lyrics. With "Release You," it's a fun way to really show that you are done with someone.

8. Boys Like You

An upbeat, love song really gives you something to dance around to. Instead of the standard super slow love songs, Megan and Liz gave us this song that still shows what it's like to be in love with someone. It talks about all the things we love about the person we're dating and how we only need to find that one special person to be happy.

9. New At This

We're all new at something. This was one of my favorite songs to play on my 21st birthday, and well pretty much nothing else. Let's face it, when we turn 21 we don't care about much other than what we want to do. We like to have fun and it's alright to do that. I'm sure there are people who can relate to giving a fake name at a bar or not knowing what to order. Yet, we live a careless life. That's the fun vibe of this song.

10. Back Home

For me this song reminds me how much I love when I get to go home, even if it's for a few days. There's always something so relaxing about being "Back Home" and the familiarity of the area. No matter where you go in life, going back home will seem to be a relaxing moment and who knows, maybe it'll help when you need it most!

BONUS SONG: Are you Happy Now?

Their anti-bullying anthem is the greatest thing I've ever heard. I love it and this is probably my favorite performance of them doing this song. Instead of breaking someone down, we need to build them up and be there for each other. If we tell someone that there's something wrong with them, they're going to believe it. Even if they're different from you, be nice to everyone! (And I'll include the normal version of the song in case you want that!)

While I only provided some of their songs, there are so many great ones that Megan and Liz put out! They have covers that they do a great job on as well, so I highly recommend checking them out! Megan and Liz have a song for my every mood and listening to them is one of the best parts of my week!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
