Even in the dead of winter, there's still plenty to do on Long Island, especially right before the holidays. Whether it's snowing or sunny and 17 degrees (ouch), you can still gather up the nerve to leave the house and explore. Here's 10 things to do on Long Island (or the City) in the winter!
1. The Jones Beach Light Show
Nothing says the holidays like the Jones Beach Light Show. It's been a tradition for years and folks all over Long Island go every time it comes back around.
2. The Rolling Stone Exhibitionism (NYC)
The new Rolling Stones Exhibitionism is open in NYC only until March! Check it out before you have to fly across the ocean just to visit the one in London.
3. The Milleridge Inn
The Milleridge Inn has some of the best Christmas shops, lights and hot chocolate around, perfect for this upcoming week.
4. East Meadow Midnight Run (on New Years Eve)
Who doesn't want to ring in the New Year with something active.
5. Fishing out in Montauk
That is if you're brave enough, and warm enough.
6. Pet a penguin at the LI Aquarium!
Because how can you pass up being that close to everyone's favorite Arctic animal.
7. Shop in Soho, Manhasset, Huntington or Garden City with all your Christmas money.
There's plenty of malls and small villages within these cities for you to shop til you drop.
8. Visit the beaches
What else is there to do for Long Islanders who can't seem to stay away from the beach even when it's cold outside.
9. Ice Skating at Christopher Morely Park
If you don't want to travel all the way into the city, this is the perfect location for ice skating.
