10 Little Things That We Should Do Every Day.

Life gets busy and most of us forget to do a lot of little things that are, actually, very important.

A lot of times life gets in the way and we forget to slow down, take a break and remember to do the little things. I know being a busy college student, its hard to find time to do anything for myself, but it's very important to make time. I always remember to do these ten little things now and again, and, when you do them, they make you feel so much better.

1. Always, always, always eat breakfast! And no, that extra large coffee from Dunkin Donuts doesn't count as breakfast. Eat something substantial to power you through your morning until lunch.

2. Hold the door for others. Going to a university that takes pride in holding doors for each other, I notices that not many people actually do this on a daily basis. Maybe its not about holding the door for someone else, but it's very fulfilling when you make someone else smile. A simple act of kindness can really brighten someone's day, while also making yourself feel great.

5. Floss. Did you know that gum disease just looks absolutely awful? I sat through a presentation of the importance of flossing and let me tell you, I've done it everyday since, so just do it ok. You don't want that and I won't scar you with a picture (google it if you want a shocker). Flossing consumes that extra time that you don't think you have, but you really need to fit it in.

6. Drink water. Try this for a day: drink water like a fish. The more water you drink the more you'll notice a difference in your energy, skin and overall mood. I drink between 60 and 90 ounces of water a day.

7. Be active. You don't have to be a cross country runner or body lifter, but go on a walk around your neighborhood or hit the elliptical for twenty minutes. Exercising can really clear your head and give you time to reflect on your day. You will also get a better sleep at night!

8. Make a list, check things off, get things done. I always start my day with a list of things know I need to do, and get things done! You will feel great when there is a day that you actually, truly don't have anything to do.

9. Relax. Take a breath. Take a break from work or school. It will always be there tomorrow. Go to the beach or to the park. Take a break from the world, even if it's only for ten minutes. It's extremely important to take time for yourself here and there to clear your head. This can also help you generate new ideas and be on top of your game!

10. Smile. Always find something to smile about. No matter how draining work or school was, you need to smile. Smiling actually releases endorphins, reduces stress and anxiety and it strengthens your immune system. No matter what is going on, no matter how bad it may be at the time, don't forget to share a smile.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
