There are a lot of bad things that happen everyday. From racism to war to poverty; there are too many reasons to be upset, and rightfully so. I just wanted to take a moment this week to appreciate people and the small things they do that make my heart warm. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the good in all the bad.

1. Going to the movies

I love the whole idea of going to the movies; not the movie itself, but the fact the strangers come together in a this big room to watch a movie they're interested in. They don't necessarily have conversation with each other, but it's the fact of coming together to sit and watch a movie and enjoy that subconscious awareness of each other.

2. Waiting to eat until everyone has their food

I just noticed this last night when I went out to each with a group of friends. I love that we wait for everyone to get our food before the eating commences. It's almost like people want to be able experience of eating delicious food together.

3. Holding doors for others

It's simple, it's polite; but it's refreshing to see. I love the almost reflexive action that we do to make other's day just that much better. I love to see that small lending hand for each other.

4. Speaking passionately

When you get someone going about a topic they are excited about, it's admirable to see the passion in their eyes; to see the light in their eyes; the uncontrollable gestures of joy

5. Random acts of unrecognized kindness

I remember when I went to Starbucks with my mom a few years ago, and the cashier told us that the person in front of us paid for our drinks. This person would never actually see the joy it brought us, because they didn't have to, and that truly restore my faith in the goodness of people. It has inspired me to do the same, so I often write on receipt wishing my server a good day. They may not enjoy to the extent I want, but the chance that they will is enough.

6. Music

This speaks for itself, but the wide array of genres and music is mind-blowing. It's as if there is a type of music out there for just about everyone. The kind of music that people listen to is indicative of their soul in an artful way.

7. Singing to yourself

Stemming from music, it's sweet to see someone singing to themselves or silently jamming with their headphones in while they think no one is watching them. Without sounding too creepy, it's nice to see people and how they are when they think no one is watching.

8. Hugs

I love that our way of greeting and expressing kindness and love is through the embrace of another person-- it's just so cuddly and nice.

9. Surprises

The look on people's faces when they're surprised is priceless. It isn't a forced expression, it's an expression of complete, genuine shock and it's invaluable.

10. Seeing animals

A classic, a person's heart melts and their actions reflect that every time any kind of animal is present-- especially dogs. No matter what kind of day someone is having, a baby animal is sure to put a smile on their face.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
