Honestly though, 10 doesn't even cover it.

10 Things I Learned About Myself After Coming to College

1. I’m not good at goodbyes. If you think you saw tears, it was probably just because my contacts were dry or there was an onion being cut in the kitchen.

2. I rely on my friends more than I think. It’s hard to realize in the mist of a transition how difficult it actually can be. It was always nice to be able to walk down the hall if I needed anything. Special shout out to those involved in providing me endless gummy bears and ramen.

3. I’m definitely a morning person. This doesn’t necessarily mean I can jump out of bed as soon as my alarm goes off and be ready to take on the day. That would be a lie. However, starting my day too late makes me feel unproductive and leaves me wishing I had walked to get that coffee at nine, not eleven.

4. Failure is not always a bad thing. You can’t always get what you want. But it’s safe to say that when you don’t get it, you definitely work harder to get the next.

5. It’s okay to stay in. Simply enough, if you don’t want to go out because you’re tired, have other things to do, or you just don’t want to, you don’t have to. People have different priorities and it’s important to respect them even if they are different from your own.

6. I can’t be everyone’s best friend. Most people would agree, I’m a people pleaser. I just want to be friends with everyone, and I find it hard to understand why that’s so difficult. People have different personalities and interests and sometimes the closest you can get to them is an Instagram follow.

7. Laundry is an art, and I’m failing the intro class. Some things are pink that used to be white. That’s all I have to say about that.

8. Google Hangout can be the perfect cure to homesickness. If ya don’t know, now ya know. Google Hangout, aka, homesickness saver, allowed me to video chat with all of my friends from home all at once. As a bonus, I could even draw on their faces, (until they realized they could block me from doing so). I realized that even when I thought I was too busy to even sit down, it’s important to catch a break and get some time to relax.

9. Balancing everything can be tricky. Having so much freedom at college can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s important to figure out how to balance your time and its safe to say I definitely struggled with doing so in the beginning.

10. I have an unhealthy Bojangles addiction.Honestly one of the biggest problems I have is whether I have room in my stomach and my budget for an individual sized mashed potatoes or a picnic size.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
