1. For the student navigating the dining hall and dorm living...
"Twenty-four dollars meant four hundred and eighty doughnuts. He could live on it three months and sleep in the park." ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, This Side of Paradise
When you're eating on a college meal plan and have limited funds, I can see why eating a diet of doughnuts and sleeping in a park doesn't seem like a half-bad idea.
2. For the student with big career dreams...
“You ought to dream. All our biggest businessmen have been dreamers.” ― Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises
Right now, your career goals are merely aspirations, and some people may not have faith in you, but you keep dreaming (and studying).
3. For the student entering college more than ready for freedom and independence...
"I remembered that the real world was wide, and that a varied field of hopes and fears, of sensations and excitements, awaited those who had the courage to go forth into its expanse, to seek real knowledge of life amidst its perils." — Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
Remember, becoming an adult isn't easy, but despite its challenges, it's an adventure.
4. For the student who feels braindead...
"Finally, from so little sleeping and so much reading, his brain dried up and he went completely out of his mind.” ― Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote
Spending late nights in the library and studying for finals will make you feel like you've lost your mind.
5. For the student who has dramatically changed...
"The average personality reshapes frequently, every few years even our bodies undergo a complete overhaul ― desirable or not, it is a natural thing that we should change." ― Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s
As you look back to your freshman self, you realize how much college has changed you inside and out.
6. For the student who thinks everyone needs a reality check...
"I’m just sick of ego, ego, ego. My own and everybody else’s. I’m sick of everybody that wants to get somewhere, do something distinguished and all, be somebody interesting. It’s disgusting." ― J.D. Salinger, Franny and Zooey
We all have dreams and goals, but the fact is, some students take themselves too seriously or think too highly of themselves. Let's not fulfill the millennial stereotype.
7. For the student who procrastinates...
“A person who has not done one half his day's work by ten o'clock, runs a chance of leaving the other half undone.” ― Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
Is procrastination your worst enemy? Or, does it only motivate you to work harder?
8. For the student rationalizing his loans and growing debt...
"For I consider brains far superior to money in every way. You may have noticed that if one has money without brains, he cannot use it to his advantage; but if one has brains without money, they will enable him to live comfortably to the end of his days." ― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Although college is expensive and will leave us with loans to pay, the byproduct of education is greater than the debt.
9. For the student having a premature quarter-life crisis...
"We learn from failure, not from success!" ― Bram Stoker, Dracula
It is never too late to turn your life around.
10. For the student cramming for an exam...
“I had been to school most all the time, and could spell, and read, and write just a little, and could say the multiplication table up to six times seven is thirty-five, and I don't reckon I could ever get any further than that if I was to live forever. I don't take no stock in mathematics, anyway.” ― Mark Twain, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
We've all thought something like this. Don't panic.
