10 Life Lessons Parks And Recreation Has Taught Me
NBC

Like most shows on TV, "Parks and Recreation" has many different life lessons within each 30-minute episode for their viewers. But with Parks and Rec being a comedy, not all life lessons that Leslie Knope and the rest of the parks department of Pawnee, Indiana are the typical cookie-cutter examples. Here are some of my favorite.

1. You do not always have to have it figured out

Come on, look at Andy. 99 percent of the time he has no idea what is going on and he just makes it up as he goes and he is a pretty happy guy.

2. Treat Yo’ Self

If there is one thing that Donna, Tom, and even Ben has taught us is that it's okay to spoil yourself once in a while. Go get that new pair of shoes, the newest makeup palate, or batman suit. Get something that will make you happy. It's that simple.

3. Ovaries before Brovaries

Sometimes you have to put your last minute plans with your best friend over a night with your significant other and that’s OK. Your friends need some TLC too.

4. Never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing

What else can I say? You cannot do everything at once. Dedicate yourself to one thing at a time put 100 percent of yourself into it and you will be so incredibly better off.

5. Breakfast is something that you can have at any time of the day

You want waffles for dinner? Leslie Knope would approve. Want bacon for a midnight snack? Ron Swanson would think you are a complete idiot for even questioning it.

6. LITERALLY always have a positive attitude

As stupid as this sounds, it really helps. Staying positive about the most obscure things really does make you an overall happier person that other people will notice and quite frankly envy.

7. Be as confident as Tom when he put glitter in his laundry detergent

Yes, it is a completely terrible idea, but hey, at least he believed in himself. Be like Tom and have faith in yourself when no one else does.

8. Know your liquor

You can either follow Ron Swanson's advice and keep clear liquid for which women that are on diets, or consume alcohol anyway you like. Either way, Swanson would be proud.

9. Find yourself an Ann Perkins

Everyone needs a best friend that will tell you like it is and at the same time be your right-hand man when you need a shoulder to cry on, or even when you need to kick someone's ass Pawnee style.

10. Be the Leslie Knope of anything that you do

Not only is she passionate, a great leader, and her own role model, she never stops trying no matter what obstacle is thrown her way. No matter what, she finds strength in herself to push through and to get done what needs to get done...sometimes the most ridiculous way possible.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

5 Untold Struggles Of The Short Friend

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
