"Full House" is a beloved sitcom that was around in the late '80s to the mid '90s. Many people have watched and fallen in love with the show (and the whole Tanner family). I know that I grew up watching the reruns of it almost every night. Now that the series has a follow up show, "Fuller House," on Netflix, I thought we should look back at some of the lessons the original series has taught us.
1. Hugging is always good
Danny Tanner was always solving problems with hugging. There is probably not even one episode of Full House without at least one hug in it. I have learned that sometimes, hugging is really necessary. But please do not go around hugging every person you see.
2. The whole house needs to be clean at all times
Okay, maybe not all of the time. But Danny T definitely made it his goal to keep the house clean and he also wanted it to be just as important to the rest of the fam. I think back to the day when Michelle wanted to help her dad clean, so she followed him around and stuck cleaning supplies in her little overalls. If you are a dirty person, just try and keep things tidy!
3. Catchphrases are sometimes necessary
There are some situations when you really have nothing else to say, so you pull out a small phrase that fits the situation just right! The Tanner crew was always really good at this, whether someone was being rude, Michelle was doing a favor for someone, or Uncle Jesse had a really great kiss.
4. It's impossible to lie to your parents--you feel too guilty
My mind goes to the episode where DJ wanted to go out on a date, but she was babysitting her sisters, so she dragged them along and then they got in trouble. She came up with a story to tell their dad so they would not get in trouble, but then DJ chickened out and had to tell him. She felt too guilty. You might find it easy to lie to your parents, but they will eventually find out. Or the guilt will just eat you alive.
5. Ice cream is always necessary
Ice cream is very, very important.
6. Sometimes you need to put those you love ahead of your own wants/needs
Jesse and Joey had their own dreams, but they knew that Danny needed them, so they put their own wants and needs on hold so that they could help out a friend in need.
7. That one true best friend never leaves you
DJ and Kimmy were the best of friends (and still are). Through the good and bad times, they stayed together. The Tanner family often vocalized their dislike towards her, but I think that they really did love her (and her stinky feet).
8. Never give up on your dreams
When Jesse and Joey moved in, they paused their dreams. But Jesse always wanted to be a musician and Joey always wanted to be a stand up comedian. After living at the Tanner house for awhile, Jesse eventually opened up the Smash Club, performed with his band at times, and was successful. Joey had a few gigs from time to time doing comedy as well. They may have had to pause their dreams, but they never gave up.
9. Your parents are pretty much always right
Danny Tanner was a really great dad, and he was always great at teaching his girls how to be good people. He did so much for them and taught them many life lessons. They tried to rebel a few times, but they always understood that he was right.
10. Family is always going to be there for you
Our families are made up of all the people you want it to be. It could include friends, biological family, or a mix of the two. But when you find a group of people that make you feel at home and are there for you through thick and thin, you better do your best to keep them around.
