June 30, 2016, marked the ten-year anniversary since Meryl Streep played editor-in-chief in the ever iconic, "The Devil Wears Prada." The ever-intimidating EIC taught us several life lessons that apply whether you want to work in fashion or not, as well as some iconic lines.
1. Walk into the room like you own it.
This doesn't mean be arrogant and self-righteous, but rather confident and purposeful. Body language speaks louder than words when it comes to these situations. What's your message?
2. Have self respect.
Be the type of person that others know they better not mess with, because you got sass and self-respect!
3. First impressions matter, so your appearance matters.
I am such a huge supporter of nailing first impressions! It might seem shallow and that people shouldn't judge you by the way you look, and I agree. But by dressing nice and carrying yourself with dignity, you are just respecting yourself and projecting to others that you deserve their attention.
4. Don't skirt around it, be straight up.
It might be tough to be straight up honest, but it's the better way to go in the end, for everyone involved. You'll be respected for it in the end.
5. Leave excuses at the door. They won't get you anywhere except failure.
Grow up and put your big boy (or girl) pants on and do your job competently. Take responsibility and get the job done.
6. Go above and beyond, even in the little details.
Yes, yes yes! This is a skill that is so incredibly important and valued in all areas of life. Learn to have a detail-oriented mind and you'll definitely leave an impression.
7. Always take chances in life.
You'll never be successful if you don't first risk it all. Failure can only make you stronger and more confident. You'll thank yourself later.
8. Always be yourself...because everyone else is already taken.
Andy slowly let the fashion industry change her. At first it was just
her clothes, but soon her personality changed too, resulting in her
losing her friends and boyfriend. Stay true to who you are.
9. Be up for anything. #adventure
Life is full of adventures, and most times we don't have to go far to find them. The most important thing we can do is to accept a challenge, and embrace whatever the journey holds.
