If you go to Auburn University or are an Auburn fan, we all know what Auburn football means to us. Whether they consistently disappoint us or consistently surprise us, and no matter how many wins or losses we have, here's 10 life lessons that Auburn football has taught me. And really, lessons that it's taught all of us.
1. Actually, the best offense is a good defense.
While I know that's not how the phrase goes, life can't beat you if you don't let it score. Always get back up again.
2. You're never out of the fight.
Don't ever give up on yourself. You never know what could happen.
3. Life is unpredictable. It's full of disappointments and embarrassments, but it's also full of triumph.
Almost loosing to Jacksonville State? Yeah, that happened. The Kick Six? Yeah, that happened too.
4. Sometimes, it really does only take one second.
Not just to win a game, but to do anything. Good. Harmful. Vengeful. Kind. Our choices only take one second.
5. Believe in a sound mind, a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid.
Don't be afraid of a bigger or better team. Don't be afraid of your opponents or anything they throw your way.
6. It doesn't matter how many National Championship rings you have or how high your winning percentage is.
What matters at the end of the day is if you have heart.
7. One person doesn't make a team.
Not Pat. Not Bo. And not even Cam.
8. People will surprise you. Good and bad.
A reputation means nothing if there's no action behind it. You have to consistently prove yourself to people.
9. Give 'em hell.
Never give up, and give them all you've got.
10. It's not just football. It's family.
And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.
