Little,
I hope that I have been a good big to you over the past three years. When I first learned I was your big, I remember how excited I was to spoil you and watch our relationship grow. I wasn't scared that we wouldn't get along, but I was thrilled to be your mentor and friend through your collegiate career, as well as for the rest of our lives.
After Big/Little Reveal, I remember realizing what kind of impact I could have on your life, and it terrified me. What if I failed? What if I couldn't teach you what it means to be a member of our chapter? What if I couldn't give you good advice about school? Or boys? Or anything? It was then that I sat down and thought about what my own big taught me. I decided I wanted to make a list of things I knew I wanted to teach you, whether directly or indirectly, before I graduate. So, Little, here's the list of life lessons I hope you'll have learned by the time I graduate:
1. Always respect others, whether or not they respect you.
2. Remember that you can do anything you set your mind to.
3. Stand up for what you believe in.
4. It's OK to fail.
5. There's always time for pizza.
6. Don't settle for less than what you deserve.
7. Never hesitate to ask questions.
8. It's OK to make dumb decisions; It's how we learn.
9. Lead, don't follow.
10. Be Leslie Knope, always.
So, Little, I hope I've taught you well and didn't fail you as a mentor, confidant or friend. No matter how far apart we may be, how old we may get, you will always be my little, and I will always be here when you need me.
Love you always.
xoxo,
Big
