There are so many "life hacks" posts, but I feel like most I see I would never use. So here are 10 nifty things that I have actually used while being in college.

1. Rubberband it.

Next time you find yourself unable to open something, try rubber-banding it! It gives you more of a grip to open those tight lids. Or you could simply walk down the hall and ask the kind boys in the dorm next door to you. Both work just as well!

2. Coconut oil solves everything.

But for real, I use coconut oil on everything. Use coconut oil on your skin, for teeth whitening, hair, removing makeup, cooking... really anything. I would swear by this stuff.

3. Command strips save space.

Seriously, I don't know what I would do without command strips. My straightener, curling iron, and hair brushes all hang on my cabinet door. Command strips can hang anything and everything, and they leave no mess when they are taken down!

4. Invest in some cute boxes.

Who wants to walk into a room and see a bunch of cords and wires everywhere? Get some cute boxes and make it a DIY project. You'll be thankful for it later.

5. Try magnetic strips.

Here's another space-saver idea. Need a little extra vanity space? Try hot-gluing small magnets to the back of your makeup and placing them on a magnetic board on the wall.

6. Shower caps make visiting home much easier.

You can buy cheap plastic shower caps at any store. While you're getting ready to visit home, try placing your shoes in a shower cap to protect your clothes from getting dirty.

7. Alcohol saves your makeup.

We all know how expensive makeup can be, and we also know accidents happen. Fix any broken makeup pallet with rubbing alcohol and make it good as new!

8. Natural lip stain.

Lip stains can get to be pretty expensive. I have actually created my own lip stain out of berries and oil for less than $5. Click the picture to find out how you can too!

9. Straws save your jewelry.

Threading your necklaces through straws for move-in/ move-out day, or even weekend getaway's help keep your necklaces tangle-free!

10. Lavender Essential Oil.

Last but not least- lavender. Lavender is a great and natural bug repellent. Whenever I step outside, I always get eaten up by mosquitos. A dab of lavender on my wrists, ankles, and neck repels most mosquitos away from me (mosquitos don't like the smell of lavender); not to mention it also smells much better than bug spray!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
