There is more to the 2001 comical genius of a film, "Legally Blonde," than just good jams and typical early 2000s outfits. Out of the nearly 100 times I've watched this film I have picked up some good lessons that this movie has taught me.
1. Any Guy Who Calls You "Pooh Bear" Is Not Worth Your Time
I'm all for romantic relationships, and Warner is a very handsome guy, but "Pooh Bear" is just a little too sappy for me. I'd rather a guy not use a sappy nickname to cover up the fact that he is disrespecting me. You always deserve to be with a man who respects you for who you are.
2. Your Hair Color Does Not Define You
Not all blondes are stupid; yes, redheads do have souls; and no, not all brunettes are "wifey" material. We all know that there are stereotypes based on hair color but Elle Woods proves those people wrong, and you should too.
3. Your Sorority Sisters (Or Best Friends) Will Always Have Your Back
Whether you're determined to go to law school or think you need to drop a few classes because your course load will exhaust you, your sisters and friends will always be there for you. They will help you along the way through any obstacle you come to face, because they want what is best for you.
4. Studying For A Final Or Finishing A Project Is SO Worth Skipping That Party
Elle Woods, like most of us, loves her social calendar, but when a big final or project is coming up you will be thankful you spent your time with your head in the books studying instead of dancing to dubstep music. I promise an A is more rewarding.
5. Have The Confidence Elle Did And You Will Succeed
Okay...maybe you should have some backup schools when it comes to Harvard...but the confidence Elle had is what landed her a spot in the most prestigious law school in the United States, and it could land you the position you want too! Whether it's a new job, the president of your organization, or even a spot in college. Elle Woods is my go-to confidence booster.
6. Always Help The Underdog
One of my favorite parts of the movie is when Elle helps the dorky David Kidney when the two girls mock him. Even after David judged Elle in the beginning of the film! Helping the underdog may not help you in any way but it sure does make you feel a little better knowing that you helped someone.
7. A Dog Can Be A Girl's Best Friend Too
"Legally Blonde" wouldn't be as great of a movie with out Elle's sidekick, Bruiser, and we all know it! A dog can be a girl's best friend too, and any one of you who have cuddled with a puppy or grew up with a dog by your side knows this to be true.8. Professors And Teachers Are There to Help
I can relate on a personal level to Elle walking into a college class and having a scary strict professor, but deep inside I know that these professors are human too. I know there are some professors who just suck, but for the most part they want to better our education. Many of them have faith in us and hope for us to have a bright future.
9. Do Not Underestimate the Powers of a Manicure
Sometimes spending an extra $15-20 is worth feeling pampered. I mean who doesn't love a hand massage? It's the little things in life that make me happy... I mean a manicure is a great way to de-stress! Plus, you can get your nails done in a pretty color to brighten your mood.
10. Always Have Faith In Yourself
I'm a firm believer in passion and I would like to personally thank the writers, producers and/or directors or whoever came up with probably one of the best inspirational movie quotes of all time.
"On our very first day at Harvard, a very wise professor quoted Aristotle. The law is reason free from passion. Well, no offense to Aristotle, but in my three years at Harvard, I have come to find that passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law, and of life. It is with passion, courage of conviction, and strong sense of self that we take our next steps into the world. Remembering that first impressions are not always correct. You must always have faith in people, and most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself."
So, "Legally Blonde," I would like to thank you for giving me so much more than a perfect Girls-Night-In movie to watch.
