“The Office” aired its last episode years ago, but its popularity still lives on. I learned a lot from watching the show, even though it was supposed to be a comedy about a goofy boss. Here are just 10 of the lessons I learned from watching “The Office.”
1.True friends will always be there for you.
Despite, being on the other side of the country in Colorado, Michael still traveled back to Scranton for Dwight’s wedding. True friends will never let you down, and they will always be there to celebrate life’s big moments with you.
2.If you love someone, let him/her go. He/she will come back to you.
Michael loved Holly so much that he let her go. And she loved him so much that she came back. It’s hard to leave someone you love, but he or she will come back to you if you both truly love each other. Take it from Michael.
3.If you truly love something, don’t let it go.
Michael truly loved working at Dunder-Mifflin, and sadly, he let it go. Sure, it turned out to be a positive decision for him because he and Holly strengthened their relationship. But I think he missed his job and his coworkers.
4.Work should be fun.
The amount of fun Jim had while messing with Dwight cannot be quantified, but I know there was a lot of it! Jim messed with Dwight every single day, even when he was working at another branch. Jim’s pranks made work fun, and we should take a page or two out of his book.
5.Change is a part of life.
People came and went from Dunder-Mifflin all the time, but changes like that are part of life. Management changed hands a few times throughout the show, and people like Jim, Kelly, Ryan, and Toby left and came back as their lives changed. This is natural, and I think the show did a great job of demonstrating it.
6.Everyone can use a good laugh.
Laughter is contagious, but it’s also a necessity. We should not only laugh more but also make each other laugh more. Imagine how much more fun your job would be if you laughed during work every day.
7.Be patient.
Jim and Michael both waited a long time for their lives to be where they wanted them. Jim watched Pam in her engagement to another man for years before he got the chance to be with her, and Michael went through relationship after relationship until he was finally able to settle down with Holly. Patience is key.
8.Where you went to college doesn’t matter as much as what you learned there.
Everyone who has seen “The Office” knows that Andy never stopped talking about Cornell. Although there is nothing wrong with school pride, you should talk about what you learned in school more than which school you attended. Additionally, not going to a “good school” doesn’t mean your education has little value. Education is valuable no matter where it is received, and we should share things we have learned more often.
9.If it’s meant to be, it will be.
Jim and Pam are the primary example of this. They were meant to be together, and although it took a while, they ended up together. Enough said.
10.Sometimes the most unexpected person could turn out to be your best friend.
Dwight and Pam have the most unlikely friendship, but it is also one of the truest on the show. You would think that Dwight would want nothing to do with Pam, especially because she has always associated herself with Jim, his tormentor. But they end up being the best of friends, and that goes to show that you can’t go looking for friendship but that friendship will find you even in the most unlikely of places.
“The Office” has a lot of valuable life lessons, and despite the cast having moved on, the show is still a hit. I hope you take these lessons with you and remember that it’s never too early for ice cream!
