Science of Relationships

With all the busy work we do everyday, holidays and the passing time may slip our minds. The next thing you know, it's Valentine's Day and you still haven't gotten your special someone a gift. Here are 10 things you can do if you have a brain fart and forget about Valentine's Day!

1. DIY Gifts

Homemade gifts always reach a special place in your significant other's heart because they know that you put your heart into the gift to make it. Make your significant other breakfast in bed, or a candlelit dinner and spend the meal together reminding your significant other why they are important to you. Or make a scrap book of your favorite memories together and spend the evening reminiscing.

2. A basket of their favorite snacks

Creating a raffle-like basket full of their favorite snacks and gadgets is a great way to show your significant other how much they mean to you. This is a gift that can be easily put together with little effort and can be fairly cheap as well. Adding some of their favorite foods, a good DVD to watch, or various other things that your significant other enjoys will get you a happy Valentine's Day with your lover.

3. Flowers, Chocolate and a Card

You can never go wrong with the typical bouquet of roses, a nice box of assorted chocolates (or their favorite chocolate) and a heartfelt card (either bought or handwritten). Although this is the typical present, your significant other will appreciate the thought and know that on the day of love you thought about them. A handwritten card will go a long way in making your significant one feel truly special and honored on this day.

4. Jewelry

Although this tends to be an expensive gift, jewelry is never a bad option when thinking of present ideas for your significant other. Whether it is a watch for your man, or a sparkling gold necklace for your special woman, jewelry makes them feel special.

5. Date Jar

If you are the couple that can never decide on places to go for a date, try the idea of a date jar. Cut up a bunch of pieces of paper of various colors. Use the colors to differentiate the type of date, such as a formal dinner at a fancy restaurant or just a casual movie night. Then write different date ideas down, decorate and fill the jar with these ideas. Your significant other will appreciate the gesture and you can both benefit from this gift.

6. Tickets to a favorite sporting event

This gift does not necessarily have to be sports. You could get your significant other tickets to something he/she enjoys, such as a spa trip for her. Although quite expensive, this gift will give your significant other the opportunity to relax for a day and become stress free in this stressful world we live in.

7. Date Night Out

As a gift, take your significant other out on that much needed surprise date night. Make it as romantic as possible while making sure to keep in a secret. Take him/her out to a fancy restaurant and spend the evening pampering him/her by doing everything he/she wants for the night.

8. Funny His and Hers Shirts

These types of shirts make your significant other feel as if he/she can be safe in the relationship. There is no fear of leaving or cheating because the world knows that he/she is taken by someone based off the shirt. It also shows that he/she is proud to be in a relationship with you because he/she is willing to wear the proof out in public.

9. Personalized Gifts

Whether it be something as simple as a cute picture frame with a photo of the two of you, or something more complex as an engraved bracelet, a personalized gift will show your significant other how important you are. It also gives the relationship some sort of backbone without making anything permanent like a tattoo declaring your love.

10. Giant Stuffed Animals

Nothing says I love you like a giant stuffed teddy bear that she can cuddle with in your absence. Without spending much money, a giant stuffed animal shows her how great your love is for her, while giving her something to keep the other side of the bed occupied when you are not there. She will always have that memory of you when she finds comfort in that animal, and it is also the perfect size to cuddle or hug for comfort in hard times.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.

Grey's Anatomy

Even Shonda Rhimes, winning creator and executive producer of the hit TV shows Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and The Catch agrees that relationships with fictional characters are real. In her book, The Year of Yes she states, "I have spent more time with Meredith and Christina then many of my actual friends...When you watched TV, even spending a full hour with Christina once a week, you were likely spending more time with her then you spent with most people in your life. That relationship was real."
