10 Insignificant And Weird Things That Make Me Happy

There are so many small, insignificant things that make me happy. That one saying, "It's the little things that count," is the truest thing that I've ever heard. Not only do insignificant things make me happy, but it's the insignificantly weird ones that bring joy to me everyday. Insignificance is in the eyes of the beholder. Here are the top 10 weirdest things that make me happy:

1. Receiving an email that I have a package from my campus mail room

I think I can speak for everyone that getting packages is the best feeling ever. It's like little present.

2. The feeling of putting on warm pants straight from the dryer

Ughhhh. That's all I have to say about this.

3. People complaining

This may sound weird, but I actually like it when people complain to me. We are basically on the same boat because complaining is my middle name.

4. When someone opens the door for me

Chivalry is not dead guys!

5. Tuesdays

Yes, you hear right. Tuesdays make me very happy. Why? Nothing really happens on Tuesdays, it's one of those neutral days, at least for me it is.

6. Days of tests

I know, but hear me out. Although I have major anxiety before taking it, that feeling when you finish a test is the best. It's like a big weight that is lifted off your shoulders.

7. When no one knocks on your door

Lets be real, we all want one day to just be alone in bed all day watching Netflix.

8. When someone notices my new haircut

"Did you cut your hair?" "Yes! Thanks for noticing!"

9. When no one sits in my unassigned seat

Who do they think they are to sit in my unassigned seat? People should just pick a seat and stay there. The days when no one takes my unassigned seat are the best.

10. Having hour long conversations

When you can just talk to someone for hours upon hours and time passes by so fast. Best. Feeling. Ever.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
