10 Inexpensive Things To Do In Rhode Island This Summer

It seems that everyone always wants to do something yet has little to no money to do so during the summer. However, with these 10 ideas in Rhode Island -- hopefully we can solve that problem.

1. Drive in Movie Theatre

Located in Smithfield RI, Rustic Drive In Theatre is the best place to go. Whether you’re with family, friends or a first date, this idea helps those warm summer nights with no plans. Paying by car also helps, as it’s best to bring the biggest to open the trunk and watch all recently played in theaters movies. Just don’t forget to bring your snacks and blankets!

2. Cliff Walk

One of the free attractions in RI that tends to be the most popular. This pathway is 3.5 miles and located by the sea overlooking Newport Mansions and the ocean. This is a great idea to watch the sunset, picnic or even an early morning run.

3. Roger Williams Zoo

As one of the oldest zoos in the country, Roger truly ranks the best in my book. With a large variety of animals, gorgeous location, carousel, botanical garden, and more, this zoo has it all. With admissions only $14.95 for adults, it's truly a fun and cheap day trip.

4. Thayer Street

Love soccer? Love shopping? Love to eat? Thayer Street in downtown Providence has it all. Located a few blocks over, Brown University’s soccer teams are cheap admissions and always a blast to go watch the girls/guys play. On Thayer Street, there are little shops, both chain and small business, that are awesome to find unique things. My ultimate favorite of course is the food, as they have Johnny Rockets, Starbucks, Shark and more.

5. Beaches

Nothing is better than a day at the beach especially when it's free! Being known as the Ocean State, Rhode Island is the perfect place to spend a day under the sun. The beaches usually pay for parking however, I have been able to find street parking and gone to the beach for free!

6. Colt State Park

Want to get outside instead of being stuck inside all day? Colt State is located in Bristol right on the water. It has public open space to fly kites, have a picnic, bike ride or just read a good book.

7. RisD Museum

This is one of the best museums that I personally have ever visited with a wide variety of different art. Once you walk in the door, I promise you won't want to leave. This museum also offers free admission to college students in Rhode Island.

8. Mansions

Newport Mansions are some of the best houses to visit or even drive by! So much history in each building along with great photos.

9. WaterFire

Ranking as my ultimate favorite activity, WaterFire is basically what it sounds like, fire on the water. At night, Providence hosts this activity that is free to the public. With street actors, musicians, local businesses, live music and food, WaterFire is the perfect place for a free night to get dressed up and go out!

10. Downtown Newport

Mainly located on Thames St., Newport is the perfect place for day and night life. Everything is within walking distance with fantastic food and shops located right on the marina with access to the Newport Harbor. Anyone can easily spend a whole day getting lost in the Newport atmosphere!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
