10 Ideas To Cure Your Writer's Block

Let me be straight here: I love reading, but I LOVE writing even more. However, one thing I hate is writer's block. And surprisingly, it comes quite often. Since I was younger, I've always loved writing stories because it was a way to express myself. Writing is a way to open a door to a whole new world - one that you have the power to make your own. So why does this prove to be so difficult sometimes? I mean, after all, you have all the power. You can put whatever words you want onto paper. But still, often times I am left staring at a blank page, just waiting for words to flow out. This happened so much when I was a child, and it still happens now when I sit down to write for the Odyssey.

Writing weekly is fun and rewarding, but it also proves to be a challenge. So while I am writing this for you, I'm also selfishly writing for me (you know, in case I ever get writer's block)

1. A review of your favorite book

Harry Potter for sure. I can't even pick a specific one though so honestly, all 7.

2. A review of your least favorite book

Personally, I don't have one. Well, maybe some book I was forced (sorry to my old teachers) to read in high school.

3. Your bucket list

I have a Pinterest board of my bucket list... there's so many awesome ideas on it that I'll have to share.

4. A letter to your future (blank)

Future husband, kids, maid of honor, etc. You get the idea.

5. A current event

This one requires effort. You actually have to read the news. Shocker, huh?

6. Use gifs to explain something

I already do this one a lot. It's easy and funny, and all my friends seem to love it.

7. An open letter to (blank)

Dear whoever. If you want to write to anyone, you can do it here and get it all out. Trust me, it feels amazing.

8. Write about your roommates

You know, all good things of course. Wouldn't want to make anything awkward (;

9. A review of your favorite movie/TV show

This one is so easy, and it should get the words flowing without even having to think. You'll be done writing in no time.

10. A list of article ideas

(See what I did there?)

So, if you're a fellow Odyssey writer, or even just someone who read this for fun (what kind of loser are you anyway if you did that?), hope I helped!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
