It's that time of year again -- Instagram feeds are going to be filled with captions, like "new year, new me" and "2017 was great, but 2018 is going to be better." That also means that it's that time when people set goals for themselves as they enter the new year. Here are just some ideas for your 2018 resolution:
1. Get into shape
We're all in that post-holiday eating habits regret phase. So naturally, the go-to NY resolution is to lose some weight and get into better shape. It all starts with setting a goal for yourself and finding the motivation. A gym membership will help too!
2. Save money
I think we all would like to make it a point to save money. Maybe this year you could make it a point to put $5-10 a week into your savings account. Or take 10-15% of your paycheck and do the same thing. Future you will thank you for that.
3. Cut out the junk food
This one is a little easier said than done considering how tough it is to eat healthy at college. Even when you're not in college, this is hard because everyone is constantly on the go, and junk food is the easiest option. But make 2018 the year you stop snacking on potato chips and cookies and avoid fast food restaurants altogether.
4. Raise your GPA
Yeah sure, our GPA doesn't define us as human beings, but it sure does define us as students. Do yourself a favor and work hard to improve that GPA now because waiting until the spring semester of senior year won't do you any good.
5. Volunteer more
Make it a point to volunteer your time to a worthy cause at least once a month. Volunteer more if you can but start with once a month. This resolution won't only make you feel better about yourself, but it'll make someone else's life a little bit better too.
6. Take up a new hobby
Make this the year you learn to cook, play the guitar, or train for a marathon... even better, learn to do magic, start a YouTube channel or join a mechanical bull riding league!
7. Pray more
No matter what we are facing in life, good or bad, God is always there to listen and be there for us. Make more time each day to talk to him.
8. Cut out toxic relationships
I think this one will do a person so many favors for the future, not just 2018. How are you ever expected to grow as a person if the people you surround yourself with are bringing you down? Take on the new year with only the people who are there to see you succeed.
9. Read more
Life gets crazy, and we begin to lose time for the little things -- like reading. As a student, your time is spent reading textbooks. This year, set aside time in your week to read for pleasure.
10. Make amends with the past
The past is in the past, so leave any burdens you have there. Doing so you will free yourself mentally and emotionally, leaving you with a positive outlook for the future.
