Summer is a special time of the year when kids are out of school, the weather is beautiful, and the beaches are crowded. And who could forget the most important day of them all – the 4th of July! Our independence day boasts the month of July's name, but the parties and excitement don't have to end there.
There are many more reasons to celebrate in the month of July other than the 4th, and here are a few of the best:
1. World UFO Day
July starts off with a rather unusual holiday, World UFO Day. On the 1st of July, people around the world celebrate UFOs! Whether you think you've caught a glimpse of some unidentified flying objects or not, anyone can celebrate. Watch your favorite movie featuring aliens from a far away land.
2. The Dog Days of Summer
The Dog Days of Summer are more than just a figure of speech or a catchy line in a song, they're actual days too! The "official" Dog Days of Summer are July 3rd to August 11th, so start them off with some pre 4th of July celebration.
3. International Kissing Day
On the 6th of July, people around the world celebrate International Kissing Day. Don't have anyone to kiss? Don't worry, July 7th has got you covered.
4. Chocolate Day
Directly following International Kissing Day is Chocolate Day! Anyone can take part in this holiday through something simple like having a piece of chocolate or making a chocolate recipe. For more committed chocoholics, you can treat yourself to a chocolate filled day at Max Brenner's.
5. Friday the 13th
In 2018, Friday the 13th falls in the months of April and July. If you've made it through April without any unlucky events, try to keep your good luck for the rest of 2018 by making it through this superstitiously unlucky day.
6. National French Fry Day
Also falling on July 13th is National French Fry Day! This is an easy and delicious holiday to celebrate. Grab some friends and make sure to order some french fries on the 13th.
7. Moon Day
July 20th celebrates a day in history, especially for Americans. Moon Day is celebrated on July 20th to remind us of July 20th, 1969, the first day that man walked on the moon. A great way to remember this day in history is to watch space-themed movies like "Interstellar" or "Apollo 13."
8. Cousin's Day
A family-oriented holiday, July 24th is cousins day. Cousins are built-in best friends who are always there to make those long family gatherings a little less miserable. Whether you see them once or twice a year or nearly every day, take some time on July 24th and let them know how much you appreciate them!
9. National Chicken Wing Day
While it may be hard to believe that there is a history behind this, National Chicken Wing Day stems from the town of Buffalo, New York. The Mayor of Buffalo, Stan Makowski, announced that July 29th would be recognized as chicken wing day in 1977. A few years after this, it became nationally recognized!
10. International Day of Friendship
Believe it or not, the International Day of Friendship was recognized to be a holiday by the United Nations in just 2011, approximately 40 years after Chicken Wing Day was celebrated on a national level! International Day of Friendship is a day that can be celebrated on a personal level, with friends and family you already have, or by reaching out and meeting new people!
