10 Things That Happen During My Family's Thanksgiving

I have a huge family and whenever we get together it always seems crazy. With Thanksgiving coming up i thought i would talk about what thanksgiving is like when you have around 30 or more at a table.

1. Kids Table for life

If you have big family, you know what i'm talking about. There is never enough room for you at the adult table even if you are consider adult by the law. My brothers and cousins who are well into their twenty still sit at the kids table. It always makes for interesting time.

2. So much food

At least during Thanksgiving my family has a rule that everyone must make one thing and bring it to Thanksgiving dinner. This makes for a wide range of food and lots of it. When you have 30 people making at least dish and possibly more there is enough food to feed an army.

3. We go around and say what we are thankful for

It;s a very nice tradition and brings us closer as family but there are a lot of us. When i say a lot i mean a lot and we are all just waiting to eat but we wait because we want to here what everyone is thankful for on this lovely day. Even if we all are very hungry.

4. We always end up playing a big family game

We have quite a few games we play. Every year we always play Apples To Apples and that makes for a good time. But some years my Aunt does quiz about history and we are always trying to win the prizes she has, Last year we even played a game of how well do you know someone. You got to pick your partner and who ever won got a prize. I picked my younger brother and he did not know anything about me but it made for a funnier game.

5. Everyone is home!

This is always my favorite part, i get to see everyone who i have not seen in a while. We all live in different parts in the country and in one case a different part of the world. But Thanksgiving is a time we are all together. We all catch up with each other whether that be college or work we sit, talk smile and laugh with each other.

6. The honor of making the Lemon Water

I know what you're thinking, what is she talking about. Well as said before everyone has to make a dish for Thanksgiving, my lovely cousins found a way to get out of it by putting lemons in water and giving you lemon water. Every year they fight over who is going to make it and they always talk about who makes the better lemon water. Don't worry i don't have a favorite.

7. We all tease each other

It happens every year, no one gets out Thanksgiving dinner with out someone teasing them. One time my cousins convinced me for a whole year that one of them had an evil twin that came out during Thanksgiving, meanwhile they just put little brother in the chimney place with a mask on and scared me. There was no evil twin, sadly.

8. Lots of yelling (but all of it is good yelling)

When you have lots of people in one space well you're all talking someone is bound to yell. It might be so you can help out and set table or it's because someone wants you to pay attention to them, no matter what is, it is always out of love.

9. Saying goodbye takes forever

You need to start saying goodbye an hour before you leave it seems. There are so many people to say goodbye to and you are bound to have at least a couple conversations with some of them before you go out the door.

10. It may be crazy but it is the best day of year!

Yes, having 30 or more people in a house get's crazy real quick but i would not change it for anything. I love sitting at the kids table, getting teased, saying what i'm thankful for, and having the feeling that i'm loved by everyone sitting in the room. So with that note i can't wait for thanksgiving this year and what it will bring.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
