So by now it's safe to assume that most of you have heard about Halsey. If you haven't, here's a summary: Halsey is a 21-year-old alt-pop songstress who graces us with her beautiful voice and wild hair colors. You may know her by her song New Americana, but that's not her only musical gem. Halsey often sings about strong female heroines and her lyrics paired with her trance-like melodies, really drives home the feelings evoked by her songs. So, here is a list of 10 Halsey songs guaranteed to make you feel like a strong, invincible woman.

1. Hurricane

Hurricane is a trippy song about a girl who doesn't let men define her or own her. When this song comes on you just want to zone out and sway to the beat! This song has everything, from NYC references to LSD trips.

Notable Lyric: Pretty much the entire song, but for the sake of making my point..."I'm a wanderess, I'm a one night stand; don't belong to no city, don't belong to no man."

2. Strange Love

Have you ever been the subject of rumors and had what felt like the whole world in your business when it came to your love life? Well, then this is the song for you. Strange Love is a like an "eff you" to those nosy meddlers.

Notable Lyric: "They think I'm insane, they think my lover is strange but I don't have to f*cking tell them anything."

3. Castle

Many of you may know this song because it is featured on the soundtrack and in the trailer of The Huntsman - and very fittingly, I might add.

Notable Lyric: "I'm headed straight for the castle, they wanna make me their queen."

4. Control

This song is pretty inspiring, to be honest. If you're feeling down or discouraged you should definitely listen to it. Halsey sings about being in control of her own life and being stronger than the things that try to hold her back.

Notable Lyric: "I'm bigger than my body, I'm colder than this home, I'm meaner than my demons, I'm bigger than these bones."

5. Gasoline

I consider Gasoline to be the sister song to Hurricane; I can't really define why, it just gives me the same feeling as Hurricane does when I listen to it. Sort of an invincible kind of feeling. Gasoline is definitely worth a listen if you liked Hurricane.

Notable Lyric: "Do you call yourself a f*cking hurricane like me?"

6. Young God

I think the reason I like Halsey so much is because she's not afraid to curse and talk about sex in her music. As a young woman, these are two things that are very prevalent in our lives and society and the fact Halsey openly defies what is "lady-like", both in her style and her music, is a wonderful thing in my opinion. Anyway, this song is on the list because personally, when I listen to it I feel like I can be this powerful goddess and do anything I want.

Notable Lyric: "If you wanna go to heaven you should f*ck me tonight."

7. Coming Down

This song is on the list because even though it's about finding a mind-blowing lover, it's also about feeling desirable as a woman. And, while many women sing about such a topic, Halsey portrays it in a way that is different and fresh. Women should be able to be seen as sexual beings without being put down for it and Halsey is unapologetic about her sexuality.

Notable Lyric: "I've got a lover; a love like religion."

8. Roman Holiday

So, Roman Holiday is about a whirlwind romance, that I visualize as teenagers having their first experience with love and a summer fling. This song is on the list because I'm sure we all remember how it felt to be in love for the first time; that feeling that you were so high that nothing and no one could ever bring you down. Being in love makes you feel strong and invincible.

Notable Lyric: "Do you remember the taste of my lips that night I stole a bit of my mother's perfume?"

9. Trouble

Trouble is the heavy song that proves how strong a woman can really be. Halsey sings about being in an abusive relationship and having the strength to leave it, despite how in love you are with the person. It's a good song for this list because she's making it know that there is no victim here. the heroine (not heroin, mind you) realizes that the relationship isn't healthy and she leaves it.

Notable Lyric: "Let's cause a little trouble, you make me feel so weak. I bet you kiss your knuckles right before they touch my cheek."

10. Empty Gold

This song is one of those awesome ballads that you would expect to hear on a movie soundtrack. It's this powerful, hopeful song that makes you feel like you've just achieved something great. When I listen to it I just blast it and I immediately feel uplifted.

Notable Lyric: "They can break our hearts, they won't take our souls."

And there you have it. Now, this list is in no particular order, so don't read this based on worst to best or vice versa. Halsey is a goddess and each song is equally wonderful. So go forth and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Halsey; maybe even dye your hair blue like I did.

You can find Halsey's music on iTunes, Spotify, or Youtube.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
