On Thursday April 21, 2016, Prince passed away at the age of 57. He was a very famous songwriter, singer and producer. A seven-time Grammy winner and over 100 million record sales, he had many top hits that were know everywhere. Prince was an international superstar, so his death is affecting people all over the world.I remember growing up listening to him and LOVING every song my parents would play by him. I know people may think I am too young to know anything about Prince, but I love throwback music and this is unreal that he has passed. To remember Prince, here are 10 of his top hits and all happen to be my favorites.
1. "Purple Rain," of course!
From the album "Purple Rain," which was ranked as one of the greatest of all time. There was also a movie of the same name that was very successful.
2. "Little Red Corvette"
This video was one of the first videos by a black artist play on MTV. Just shows how great this song is.
3. "When Doves Cry"
Written for his movie "Purple Rain," it was the No. 1 song 1984 and topped the charts for five weeks over the summer that year.
4. "Let's Go Crazy"
This "Purple Rain" single spent two weeks at No. 1.
5. "1999"
This song holds the honor of being Prince's longest-charting Hot 100 hit, having spent 28 weeks on the weekly tally in three separate chart runs.
6. "Delirious"
This up-tempo third single from the "1999" album kept up a streak of top 10 hits Prince scored in 1983.
7. "Raspberry Beret"
This 1985 No. 2 is the tale of "working part time in a five-and-dime" and meeting a hottie who wore a thrift shop hat and often not much else. And though their first time wasn't amazing, he swears he "wouldn't change a stroke" about it.
8. "Kiss"
On top of the Hot 100 for two weeks. Inspired hit from 1986's "Parade," Prince lists what's needed to rule his world. Financial wealth and dirty talk aren't necessary. Maturity and availability are, though.
9. "Diamonds and Pearls"
From his 1991 album "Diamonds and Pearls." He may not have a treasure chest's worth of jewels to give, but he does have his love to offer.
10. "I Would Die for You"
The fourth single in the U.S. from Prince and The Revolution's 1984 album, "Purple Rain," released in 1984. It was a popular dance song of late 1984 and a top 10 hit in the U.S.
Choosing just 10 songs was difficult because he has so many more and they are all great songs, but these hits just show how successful he was as an artist. Prince made such an impact on the music world and his music will forever be cherished. Rest in Peace to a true legend of music.
