Every year, you can't wait to start the new school year because it's kind of like a mini New Year's Eve. You have all these "resolutions" and new ambitions. You don't know how the year is going to go, and you are just SO excited to find out (hence the caps lock.)
Every year you feel like a different and better version of you will hit the stage, but in reality, just like New Year resolutions...these won't be accomplished that much either...
Here are 10 goals you never really get to but always convince yourself of when starting a new chapter:
1. You'll get more involved by joining 10 new clubs.
GiphyAs always, you tell yourself you're going to finally have the busy schedule you never really had...but why ruin a good thing? Truthfully, it's good to have a goal of picking one new organization and maybe meeting new friends, but don't lie to yourself and imagine a whole new you from thinking about all those new clubs you'll join.
2. You'll focus more on schoolwork instead of going out.
Okay, unless your classes are significantly harder, you're work ethic won't change because you've built its foundation a long time ago. It's now up to outer circumstances to influence how you work! *Pours drink*
3. You're going to be a better money saver.
Uh huh, sure, okay. Until you see that useless thing you absolutely NEED.
4. You will eat more at the dining halls rather than eating out.
Rahhhaaaaiiiiigghhhtttt. If your dining hall is as crappy as mine, good luck with that!
5. You definitely are going to exercise more.
Unless you fully start disciplining yourself to do that now, it's like the work ethic thing. The foundation you have will be hard to change, so if you're serious, you gotta really hone this skill in!
6. Losing weight will happen this year.
How many times have you told yourself, "Okay, today I'm being stricter about my diet" and then munched on a taco. Raise your hand. Hi! Okay. First off, I am a big believer in body positivity, and more often than not, people who say they need to lose weight don't really need to—it's so unhealthy to think that way all the time. Try thinking, "I want to be more fit and strong and healthy!" and if that means opting for better foods and hitting the gym when you can, so be it!
7. "I'm going to go out more! No more being a hermit."
If you like to go out, then go out. If you don't, then don't do it just because you think you should. Plus, going out should be spontaneous. Don't set a goal to do it. If you want to do it, do it in the moment.
8. Keeping the dorm room clean will be my priority.
GiphyKeep telling yourself that (while your clothes pile up on your floor and you can't even see your desk.)
9. Down with procrastination, hello productivity!
Once again, this needs to be disciplined and honed in as a skill. You can't just say it and make it happen. It takes work! But I believe in you!!! :)
10. "I have to put myself out there more."
An honorable goal, yes, but don't force it! Just be yourself and be comfortable with what you are doing and who you are! It's a new year, but it really doesn't mean you need to be a new you. If you are happy, then be happy with how you are in social environments! But if not, then just slowly try to see what you still feel good with, but don't just throw yourself out there doing things for the sake of just being a different. You...you get me?
With that all said, setting goals is never a bad thing—just try to make sure that if you are serious about them, you take the steps you need to achieve them!
