10 Of The Best Girl Power Songs You Listened To In The 2000s
The Hunt

The 2000s were the Golden Age of Girl Power. Girl bands and pop divas alike began singing about the awesomeness of being a girl. So if you're ready to feel like you can conquer the world (or just pass that bio exam), then throw it back with ten of the 2000s' best girl power jams:

1. Cinderella- The Cheetah Girls.

What better way to feel empowered than to realize your "knight in shining armor" has been you all along? The Cheetah Girls know better than anyone the power of female confidence and girls' ability to be happy in their own right. Let's be real, we'd rather rescue ourselves.

2. La La Land- Demi Lovato.

Demi's had her fair share of struggles, but she's slaying the scene as she prepares to release her new album, "Confident." But even before she underwent major changes to her lifestyle, she was singing about the freedom all girls should seek from the expectations of society, especially for herself in L.A., otherwise known as the "La La Land Machine."

3. Stronger- Britney Spears.

Who can deny the epic woman-power of Britney Spears? This song preaches about the liberating feeling of being alone for the first time in a while and the changes you undergo when you decide that you're enough just the way you are.

4. Just the Way I Am- Skye Sweetnam.

Few will remember the bizarre Disney Channel show, The Buzz on Maggie about a fly who just wants to become a rock star, but the theme song is one you can never forget. Skye Sweetnam sings about accepting your imperfections and not caring about what other people think.

5. One Girl Revolution- Superchick.

You might recognize this song from the movies Legally Blonde and Cadet Kelly, which both feature stories of women kicking major butt in fields that are typically dominated by men. Just like Elle and Kelly, you can be the start to your own revolution.

6. Nobody's Perfect- Hannah Montana.

It's cheesy, it's catchy, and it has the perfect message: "everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days," so don't sweat the small stuff and remember that you're amazing--mistakes included.

7. Miss Independent- Kelly Clarkson.

It might seem that this song is just saying that giving up on your independence is the only way to fall in love. But if you really listen to the lyrics, it tells the story of a girl who has amazing self-respect and only lets somebody into her life if he's going to make her happy and respect her freedom.

8. Nothing's Wrong With Me- Zetta Bytes (Pixel Perfect)

Okay, so the girl who sings this song in the DCOM, Pixel Perfect is a hologram, but the song is still a great girl power anthem. It says that there's nothing wrong with being different and proud of it.

9. Why Not- Hilary Duff

If you think that Hilary Duff was a girl power icon ten years ago, then just check her out now! She's acting and singing again with a whole new attitude of independence. "Why Not" is a classic 2000s jam and begs the question, why should you wait to follow your dreams?

10. Girl Power- The Cheetah Girls

The Cheetah Girls have just too many empowering songs to choose from, and "Girl Power" is one of the best. The lyrics say it all: "Throw your hands up if you know that you're a star / You better stand up if you know just who you are / Never give up never come too far / Girl Power Girl Power!"

The next time you're feeling nervous about that math test, depressed about that ex or worried that you just aren't good enough, listen to the songs generously provided by some of the 2000s best girl power icons. They'll definitely put you in the mood to start your "One Girl Revolution."

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
