A definitive ranking of the best characters in The Seven Kingdoms.

The 10 Best Game of Thrones Characters

1. Cersei Lannister

She is, no doubt, the most cunning and conniving character in all of Westeros, but she is also the best. No matter how bad things have looked for Cersei she has always prevailed in every situation she has been in. She went from being locked in a prison cell to successfully killing all of her enemies in one fell swoop. In order to be the best you have to beat the best, and until anyone knocks of Cersei Lannister, she will be number one in The Game Of Thrones.

2. Jon Snow

Like his “father”, Jon Snow is one of the most honorable characters in Game of Thrones and also possesses the biggest heart of them all. The former Lord Commander of The Night Watch always has everyone else’s best interests at heart before his own, and is out to protect anyone he can. After defeating Ramsay Bolton, and taking back the North from the bannermen traitors Lord Snow is now The King In The North, a title well earned.

3. Arya Stark

No one has suffered more than the youngest Stark girl, and no one has undergone more dramatic change because of it. Arya has gone from a youthful aspiring fighter, to a cold-blooded assassin right before our eyes. Since losing nearly all of her family Arya has successfully sought revenge on everyone responsible for ripping her loved ones away from her, including the man behind the Red Wedding Walder Frey. A girl can kill.

4. Tyrion Lannister

His entire life, Tryion has had to live with the torment and humiliation of being a dwarf from the citizens of Kings Landing and even his own family. However, Tyrion has thrived to become one of the best characters this show has to offer. Aside from being one of the smartest men in The Seven Kingdoms with a keen mind for ruling, he is also one of the funniest and most sarcastic too.

5. Sansa Stark

Of all the characters in Game of Thrones, its hard to think of one stronger and more resilient than Sansa Stark. All Sansa wanted from a young age was to become a Lady and marry a handsome prince. However, her prince happened to be a spoiled brat and psychopathic killer wrapped into one in Joffery. After narrowly escaping Kings Landing after Joffery’s death, a murder that she is still blamed for, she was then wed off to Ramsey Bolton who thoroughly enjoys peeling the skin of living people. Still, Sansa has found a way to survive and endure these horrific situations, which is more than most characters can say.

6. Ned Stark

While Ned Stark was only with us for one season, his impact has persisted throughout the entire show’s run. Whenever honor or justice is in the forefront of a discussion, Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell’s name always finds its way into the conversation. No man was more honorable in The Seven Kingdoms than Lord Stark. He valued morals and ethics over money and power and even his own life; a rare find in the world of Game Of Thrones.

7. Varys

No matter how deep or dark your secret is, the former Master of Whisperers will be sure to find out what it is and how he can use it preserve his own interests. While that sounds selfish, Varys’ only true devotion is to the realm. This is why he made the bold move to free Tyrion and abandon Kings Landing in order to find Daenerys. He sees this as more important than his own, which is what makes him an intriguing character.

8. Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys started out by being married off to Khal Drogo of the Dothraki. Since then, the Unburnt has rapidly acquired armies, soldiers, ships, three dragons and is currently en route to take back Kings Landing for her family. All of this can be contributed to charismatic leadership presence of The Mother of Dragons. While she gained all of this power in relatively no time, it still remains in question as to whether or not she’ll be able to hold the cities in which she has conquered in check while she continues her push towards Kings Landing.

9. Jamie Lannister

When we first met Jamie Lannister he was the arrogant Captain of the Kingsguard who we all despised. While he still mans the same position, he has become a much more humbled man. Jamie has grown to attribute traits such as compassion and kindness, ones he most certainly did not have to begin with. Whether it’s befriending Brienne of Tarth or vigorously defending his brother, Jamie has grown to become one of the most likeable characters on the show.

10. Ramsay Bolton

Ramsay Bolton makes Joffery Baratheon look like a six month old puppy. Ramsay didn’t torture and kill people because he found it necessary, he did it because he liked it. Whether it was torturing Theon for no reason, or peeling people’s skin off for pleasure, Ramsay is far and away the most evil character to ever appear in Game of Thrones.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
