The Super Bowl isn't just the event for the best of the best in football to flex their prowess, but also companies to air their best commercials to rake in the big bucks. Some take the sappy, tugging-on-heartstrings-route, while others choose to rely solely on random and most of the time unnecessarily cheesy celeb cameos to get attention. However, the commercials who most often reign supreme and go down in history are the ones who show off their comedic chops and make even the most cold-hearted of us all let out a little giggle. I've ranked the 10 I found the most humorous in order, and I ask for you to watch and judge for yourself.
#10- Hard Rock
This star-studded ad features our first lady of this year's Super Bowl, halftime performer herself, Jennifer Lopez, taking down a thief trying to steal her stuff. She goes on a sprint all through the hotel that they are advertising as she tracks down the robber, and a few celeb plot twists and cameos happen throughout.
#9- Mountain Dew
This ad also utilizes a duo of celebritiy appearances as Bryan Cranston channels his inner Nicholson, and Tracee Ellis Ross plays the scared victim as these two recreate iconic scenes from The Shining.
#8- Hyundai
Not going to lie, this ad scores a 10 out of 10 just for featuring dreamboats Chris Evans & John Krasinski in one ad. Throw in the hilarious SNL alum Rachel Dratch and these MA natives' over-the-top Boston accents, and you can't help but giggle.
#7- Planters
It's Mr. Peanut's funeral, and all the commercial OGs are there, such as Mr. Clean and the Kool-Aid Man, and then suddenly Planters is going down the Baby Groot/Baby Yoda route. Not going to lie, that's pretty clever, and we probably all should have seen this coming.
#6- Snickers
I had no clue where this commercial was going with all these random people singing about annoying things happening in the world, and then suddenly I couldn't help but let out a little snicker (I had to make that pun; I just had to) when the company did a play on their slogan and fed the earth itself a snickers.
#5- Cheetos
The Cheetos' marketing person who came up with this ad deserves a high five, but their fingers are probably all cheesy. The idea of not having to do certain tiresome tasks of daily life due to the Cheeto dust coating your fingers is genius and adding in MC Hammer singing "Can't Touch This" is golden. *Chef's Kiss*
#4- Jeep
Now this is a company who realized what day of the year the Super Bowl was going to land on and capitalized on it. This ad is an ode to all things Groundhog's Day, featuring not just the original star, Bill Murray, but other characters from the classic film, and many funny quips that capture the same energy.
#3- Bud Light
Post Malone in an ad is sure to be great, and yet upon his first appearance in it, it only gets better and better.
#2- Amazon Alexa
I appreciate a well thought out commercial, and this one gets massive respect for what it accomplished. Imagining key eras of the past without Alexa is hilarious, and they save the best moment for last with the Nixon bit.
#1- Doritos
Just like the radio, the star of this year's funniest Super Bowl commercial is Lil Nas X, although Sam Elliot's mustache does give him a run for his money. This ad is electric from start to finish and utilizes the most popular song of 2019 in a fun play on words (Cool Ranch, get it?). Kudos to whoever came up with this one & congrats you win nothing except my adoration.
