10 Fun and Unique Date Ideas On NSU's Main Campus
Shiloe Gardner

Whether you're looking for something fun to do with your significant other, going on a first date, or maybe even just looking for something to with friends on campus, here are some unique (and mostly free!) date ideas that you don't have to leave campus for!

1. Check out the art exhibit on the 2nd floor of the library.

The exhibits are always changing, so this is one you can definitely do more than once! Head down to West End Deli after to grab a bite to eat and reflect on all the artwork. Check out the library's events page and search "exhibit" to find out what's currently on display.

2. Take a walk around Gold Circle Lake, and discuss a new topic each time you go around.

Topic ideas may include: sports, music, movies, places you've been/want to go, goals and aspirations, family, etc. There are plenty of things to talk about, and you can even do some iguana spotting while you're at it!

3. Watch the sunset from the top of the parking garage.

At five floors up, there's a killer view of the whole campus and Fort Lauderdale skyline. On the right evenings, the sunset provides an incredibly gorgeous view. It's a great way to relax and de-stress from all the craziness school brings.

4. Go to a sporting event.

Since you can get into any Shark athletics home game for free with your SharkCard, cheering on your Sharks is cheap and a great time! Plus when you sign up for Finatics, you can get points that go towards free stuff just for attending!

5. Climb the rock wall.

Make it a challenge by timing yourselves or racing up the wall. The staff is super friendly and can teach you everything you need to know! Check out the RecWell hours here to find out when the rock wall will be open.

6. Attend a Hip Hop or Zumba class.

You're probably thinking, "Absolutely not. I can't dance." That's cool because neither can I. Yet, hip hop class is one of my favorite ways to work out. The classes are completely judge free and you don't have to have been on the last season of So You Think You Can Dance to go. Check out those hours here.

7. Play a game of ping-pong or pool.

All you have to do is go to the RecWell front desk and ask for the equipment to play. Super fun and super easy. Make it a competition and have the winner buy chocolate cake from Flight Deck!

8. Hop on the Shark Shuttle and go "sight-seeing."

Taking a ride on the Shark Shuttle is completely free and they can take you to a variety of spots around campus and Davie. Whether you simply enjoy the adventure of riding around without a destination, or want to get off at a spot on campus you've never been, there's definitely a good time to be found here if you're looking for it.

9. See a show in the Performing and Visual Arts Center.

Located in the Don Taft University Center, PVA hosts many shows throughout the year. Whether they're theatrical, musical, or dance productions, you can support your fellow Sharks by attending their performances. Check out the Performance Series line-up here.

10. Take a walk through the Healing and Medicinal Garden.

Located by the Parker Building, the Healing and Medicinal Garden offers interesting sights and smells. With many different types of plants, a walk through the garden offers a variety of scents. You can even take a barefoot walk across the Reflexology Pathway.

These are only 10 of the numerous fun and free things to do practically anytime around campus. Keep in mind that attitude changes everything! So, if you believe you're going to have a good time, your chances of actually having a good time increase dramatically. If you get a chance to try any of these - or have tried them - let me know in the comments!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
