Having someone in your life to call a best friend is the best feeling ever. Someone you know who will always be there for you, no matter what. I know that there are many more than ten things I should thank you for, but these are the most important.

1. Thank you for accepting my past.

My middle school and early high-school years, I made some stupid decisions. I got involved in the wrong crowd, and did some things I will never be proud of. Those stupid decisions never pushed you away, but drew you closer, realizing I needed a friend.

2. Thank you for understanding that our relationship won’t always be perfect.

A healthy relationship has its arguments. Although arguing with you hurts me more than anything, I appreciate that we always do our best to make up. Even if we go two days without talking, we always find our way back to each other.

3. Thank you for helping me work on myself.

As I said before, I’ve done some things in life I deeply regret. You were there to help me realize that no one is perfect, and everyone does some stuff they’re not proud of, that those things strengthen me instead of weaken me.

4. Thank you for making me a top priority.

Whether it was three in the morning, or two in the afternoon, you were always a phone call away. You’ve always reassured me that I’m your number one, and you'd never put anyone before me.

5. Thank you for being there for me, even when I don ‘t deserve it.

There were times when we have gotten into some pretty big fights, but no matter what you stayed on the phone with me for whatever other reason I was crying for.

6. Thank you for believing in me.

Thank you for believing in me when no one else bothered to, especially when I didn't believe in myself. Whatever life threw me, you believed I would always overcome it.

7. Thank you for making my problems, your problems.

Whatever is going on in my life is going on in yours, too. Any troubles I have in my life, you've considered yours. Any trouble of mine that greatly upsets me upsets you too.

8. Thank you for making time for me.

Our friendship is definitely something that was never forced or didn’t even have to happen. You went out of your way to be a friend to me. You’ve canceled important things to be there for me when I needed it, and given me your time, when you didn’t really have much.

9. Thank you for being honest with me.

Thank you for telling me that that shirt definitely isn’t my color. Or that the person I like isn't a good match for me, even if it’s not what I want to hear. I appreciate you looking out for me and not lying.

10. Thank you for being you.

You are the most amazing person I know. Thank you for being in my life and thank you for everything you do for me. You are such a beautiful person on the inside and out. I love and appreciate you more than you’ll ever know.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
