Not all universities have the best food or even the most appetizing healthy options. It is essential to have some food in your dorm when hunger strikes. You may be running late for class and cannot make it to the dining hall, but if you keep these foods in your dorm, you will surely conquer your hunger.

1. Some Kind of Butter

Any type of spread for a bread or grain food is great for a quick breakfast that will fill you up more than a bar. Some types are sunflower seed butter, peanut butter, Nutella or almond butter. You can also use these as a dipping sauce for fruit, veggies or pretzels. Additionally, you can take avocados and use them as a spread on your grain with a little salt and pepper.

2. Granola

Granola can be used in various capacities. With milk, it can easily become cereal. With yogurt, it can be a breakfast or snack. You can add fruit for some sweetness opposed to sugar itself.

3. Bananas

Bananas are awesome fruits. You can take them on the go as a snack or even cut them up and pair them with a spread and bread. A breakfast favorite of mine is toast with almond butter and bananas. If you are looking for a light lunch instead, you can always make a sandwich!

4. Veggies

Vegetables are great for snacking especially snap peas and carrots. You can also use the spreads as dipping sauces for these. Almond butter, peanut butter, and sunflower seed butter are all awesome alternatives for salad dressing. They most usually contain less sugar.

5. Some Kind of Grain or Bread

Having a type of bread in your dorm can be helpful for the bigger meals you need to substitute. If you happen to have naan and sauce, you can make your own personal pizza in a microwave. It can make a movie night with your friends really fun. You can add veggies and cheese as toppings. If you do not have naan, bagels can work as well for pizzas.

6. Mozzarella Balls

You can find these prepackaged mozzarella balls at many stores including Wegmans. They are great on the go as little snacks as well as put on melted on top of sauce for pizzas. They will go awesome with crackers as well.

7. Yogurt

Breakfast with good protein is always important! Yogurt with granola and fruit can be a great way to start your day. Also, if you have a mini-blender in your dorm, you can make awesome smoothies with yogurt and different fruits.

8. Pesto/Sauce

Pesto and sauce, as said above, can be used to spread on naan or bagels to make personal pizzas. You can use pesto as an alternative to sauce on pizza as well as spread on bread or toast as a snack.

9. Nuts

Nuts have various uses including a part in making trail mix. If you need something on the go, you can throw some in a bag with dried fruit. If you buy chocolate covered nuts, you can have both your sweet and salty hunger satisfied.

10. Popcorn

This can be eaten as a snack, anytime! When you're having a movie night with friends, it is the perfect little snack. If your roommate is a little smelly, popcorn is also a great air freshener.

Keeping these foods in your dorm will help ward off hunger as well as lessen the temptation to spend money off or on campus for other food. Especially in a time crunch, these foods can be a life saver.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
