After several weeks of the same cold vegetables and nasty lettuce leaves, I’m getting pretty tired of Dining Hall food. I would give an arm and a leg to have any one of these foods. Here is a list of the best foods that I would rather have than eating one more meal in the Dining Hall.
1. Annie’s Mac and Cheese
I would do a lot of bad things just for one box of Annie’s Mac and Cheese right now. I miss that delicious white cheddar and shells more than I miss my bed.
2. Strollo’s Italian Ice
By far the best and only type of Italian Ice I’ll eat, there is something magical about Strollo’s. It’s probably the fact that they don’t use water-based ice but instead use cream-based ice. Any delicious flavor to grace my lips right now would be awesome.
3. Pear Pasta drenched in Carrot Cream Sauce
If you’re from JFRC, you know and love pear pasta. There is nothing like it in the world and I would kill to have some right about now except its closed for renovations.
4. Mozzarella sticks from any diner in New Jersey
Gosh, I miss mozzarella sticks. Go to any diner in New Jersey and you’re bound to have that delicious crispy taste in your mouth within minutes.
5. Potato and Leek Soup from Dublin
I am such a soup gal that the lack of quality soup in the Dining Hall is really killing me. I would fly all the way to Dublin right now for some good hearty potato soup.
6. Chimney cake from Budapest
After eating these any place I can find them, I would kill for a cinnamon chimney cake right now. That sweet sugary substance wrapping around pure dough sounds really good right now.
7. Hibachi Fried Rice
Fried rice is just not the same when its not prepared in front of you at a Hibachi place. I would love to be sitting at Benihana preparing to gorge myself on some good fried rice.
8. Any slice of pizza from Forno
If you know me in Rome, you know you can probably find me craving some Forno pizza. If I had funds to last me a lifetime, I would spend every day eating at Forno, trying any and all different specialty slices.
9. Trapizzino
By far the best Roman street food out there, I would walk miles for Trapizzino. Lucky for all you New Yorkers out there, a branch is headed your way!
10. Spaghetti
My love of Raviolis has not died, just shifted more to the classic spaghetti with tomato sauce. Dining Hall spaghetti is just not the same as the real deal made in any and all places in Rome, typically by hand with a nice ragù sauce.
A few other favorites I’m craving right about now: Belgi’s sandwiches, French toast, milkshake from Holsten’s, gelato from Giolitti or Fatamorgana, and a nice slice of Pompi tiramisu. Yum.
