After a chilly day, warm food and drinks are a must-have. They somehow make up for the cold weather and make the season become manageable. There is something satisfying about making a nice home-cooked meal or a hot drink to hold you over until the food is ready. Below is a list of foods and drinks that will fulfill those needs! There is no particular order, since it varies from people's preferences, so you can decide which is the best for the winter season!

10. Tea

Not only does tea come in many flavors, it also has natural chemicals that are beneficial to the body. It has been proven that tea can fight against different cancers and boost your exercise endurance, though each type of tea varies in terms of benefits. Green tea makes your bones stronger and oolong tea can help get rid of skin conditions such as eczema. While you are warming yourself up, it can also be a big plus for your body!

9. Roasted Chicken

A nice favorable chicken right out of the oven is always a nice dinner! Of course, you'll have to add a side of vegetables and potatoes for it to be complete. A roasted chicken will keep you full for the rest of the winter night.

8. Ginger

During winter, people have to be cautious about the flu and catching a cold. Ginger helps prevent and treat colds. Other benefits are building up your immunity and helping get rid of nausea and allergies. There are many recipes that you can use to make a meal or drink with ginger. A few ideas would be sesame ginger salmon, ginger-garlic meatballs and ginger fried rice.

7. Warm Apple Cider

You can never go wrong with warm cider. It can either be sweet or spicy, it is up to you to decide! Either way it is a tasty drink.

6. Eggs

A quick and easy meal for breakfast. You can decide whether it will be an egg sandwich, scrambled eggs, an omelet or fried eggs. Eggs have plenty of proteins and vitamins, so it's a nice way to start off your day.

5. Lasagna

Once the lasagna is done, you know that it will be hot, and when you cut into your piece there will be steam rising up from it. It's even better with extra cheese in it. The benefit of this dish is that you'll have lots of leftovers, and for some reason lasagna is always better on the second day.

4. Hot Chocolate

Looking for something sweet? Then hot chocolate is perfect for fulfilling that need! It's a great idea to have after shoveling or being outside in the cold for too long.

3. Meatloaf

Meatloaf with mashed potatoes is a good option, just as long as you don't overcook the meatloaf. With ketchup on top, it makes a great meal. Oh, and if you are a fan of green peppers, then add them into your meatloaf for more flavor!

2. Soup

This shouldn't come as a surprise. Soup is mandatory for the winter. Hot soup usually becomes a craving during cold weather or if you are feeling sick. There are many different soups to pick from, but whichever you pick, it will always make you feel better! If you have any saltine crackers in the house, they are good to dip into the soup.

1. Stew

Stew has always been one of my favorite winter meals. It reminds me of my childhood when my friends and I would be outside in the snow for hours and then my mom would call us inside. What awaited us in the house was a nice, hot homemade stew in a bowl.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Life is all about twist and turns, sideways and which ways. Nothing is permanent, so we should take risks, and chase our dreams. We are taught at a young age many lessons that will follow us into adulthood. What we aren't taught is how to feel, and how we handle those emotions. We just have to figure them out ourselves, and that's not fun. In my 21 years of living, I have come to know that way too many people can't handle emotions, or the fact that not everyone is dead inside like them. When you're like me, and you have zero control over your emotions, it's hard to feel comfortable around people who aren't so in touch with themselves. As much as I would like to feel nothing at times, I've accepted who I am and the fact that I can cry over practically nothing. So, there are some things in life that you just have to do.
