The air has gotten colder, the days are shorter, and the leaves on every tree are changing color: the fall season is officially upon us. Fall is certainly the best time of year to go out and explore Rhode Island, what with the crisp, cool air and the beautiful foliage everywhere. And as Halloween approaches, plenty of people are looking for fun ways to spend their weekends. So, to help you get into the spirit here’s a list of classic activities to do during your autumn weekends.

1. Apple Picking

Well, of course, I would mention this classic. And apple picking isn’t just for children; it can also be a romantic date. Walking around in a huge field of changing trees, grabbing the best apples is one of the best things to do during the fall. Then, after you bring home that huge bundle, you can make a delicious apple pie!

2. Pumpkin Picking

Again, another fall classic. But, not only can you use the fruits of these labors for a delicious pie, you can also plan a spooky carving to put on your doorstep. And, if you’re really hungry, you can make a snack by toasting the seeds in the oven. Makes for a nice, salty snack for later.

3. King Richard's Faire

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy this awesome festival! Every weekend from September to October, you can travel back to medieval times, complete with kings, queens, princesses, knights, and jousting tournaments. If you get really into it, you can even dress up in your medieval attire as you spend the day eating, drinking, and being merry.

4. Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Here’s another great date-night idea: go with your significant other to the outdoor pumpkin art show! Take a nice walk through the trail and get a chance to see the amazing carvings of over 5,000 pumpkins. You can even take a zip-line ride and a romantic swan-boat ride. Definitely a spectacle worth seeing and experiencing.

5. Corn Mazes

Not all mazes have to be spooky. While going apple or pumpkin picking, some of the farms might even have a fun maze for you to solve. A great game to play with family, friends, or significant others!

6. Hayrides

Hayrides don’t always have to be haunted. Take a ride through a large field just because, or before you go pumpkin picking. And you won’t have to worry about anything scary popping out at you during your ride.

7. Winery Tours

If you’re over the age of twenty-one, this an awesome date or day-trip idea with friends. Going through a vineyard during the fall will definitely get you in the spirit. And the wine might help with that, too.

8. Enjoy a Scary Movie Binge-Watch

Nothing screams Halloween quite like a horror movie marathon of all the classics. If you’re looking for some great classics, here are a few of my personal favorites: “Halloween” (obviously), “Friday the 13th”, “Night of the Living Dead” (1968), “Psycho”, “Carrie”, “The Ring”, “Poltergeist”, and “Jeepers Creepers.”

9. Scary Attractions

Speaking of spooky, another great way to get into the Halloween spirit is to visit some awesome attractions meant to scare the bejesus out of you. Some great ones include “Scary Acres”, “Factory of Terror”, “Haunted Labyrinth”, and “Field of Screams”, just to name a few.

10. Witch Tours (Salem, MA)

Looking for a little history to go with your spooky? If you’ve got a whole weekend to fill up, consider taking a day-trip up to Salem, Massachusetts to go through the famous witch tours and their ghost tours. But it’s not all scary; they also offer pirate, food, and wine tours as well. Definitely a place rich with history and great activities.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
